Stiff clutch follow up

Ok so I started a new topic so as not to clutter up the introductions folder.

Original post is in link below:

This morning I removed the side cover and sure enough the bike had a Barnett pressure plate and springs.
So I will be putting it back to stock. The Barnett plate and springs are up for sale if anyone is interested and are in great condition.

The condition of the clutch plates were bad. The steel ones had burn marks and the friction ones were very close to crumbling.
I dont know how the bike shifted so good without slipping.

Also there were 7 steel plates not 6 as I expected. I assume this was to compensate for the removal of some of the original
clutch components but that is just a guess.

Well next jobs is fix poor rear braking and install new throttle cables. Looks like the PO was not too worried about maintainence

Thanks for all the input.

Tom, I had a similar experience a number of years ago with another "previously owned" bike.  The PO-Yahoo had installed Bar***t springs and plates to play drag racer.  Too bad the bike had a pressed together crank!  Instaed of the clutch slipping the crank did instead!

Anyway, I'd suggest trying the barnett pressure plate with new plates & steels.  It may work & feel fine.

Rear brake-try removing the caliper and flush the hydraulics.  Probably all it needs.

What color are the springs?
They came in 3 flavors:
1) gold for the street, easy pull
2) green for street/strip moderate pull
3) red for racer, hard pull.

If you have green or worse, the red springs, try the gold springs

I have the gold ones. I have ordered new plates from Randy and will see how they work with the Barnetts. If still stiff I will go back to stock setup.

Big thanks to Randy for the advice he gave me via email.

Only problem I have now is trying to remove the second spring

It will come out. The surface tension of the oil is what is keeping it there. Sometimes I have to slide a thin feeler gauge between the two to break it free.

I normally use two magnets, one on each side.

The feeler gauge worked. Thanks
