Hi there from Cape Town.  Have ridden Yamahas my whole life, now 50 something, and bought my 94 FJ1200 a few years ago. A really great ride, good for the work commute as well as long distance stuff. Old school styling maybe but can still run with the pack

Welcome Karl, I agree with your opinion, good for long hauls and it keeps up with most of the sprinters with ease..... Upgrading the FJ makes it even better and more true to the above statement. There is starting to get a small group of members in South Africa. I am thinking 3 now. We would love to see photos of your 94'. The 94'-96' models were not imported to the United States. I am thinking the Black/Wet Pale Brown and blue stipe color scheme???

Hi all.  thanks for the welcome, its good to see the FJ is still rolling out there in the big wide world.  I have attached a photo of my 94 model which as far as I know started its life in Europe before being imported into SA.

That's a great looking bike!  I may be biased though as it appears to be the same as my '92!     The seat, windshield and mirrors look to have been changed out as is common, but otherwise, she's in great shape!  Thanks for posting that!

What sort of roads/weather do you typically have in SA for riding?

The cape town area is a peninsula surrounded by mountains so the riding is varied. A typical Sunday ride would be about 300 to 350 km and would cover coastal roads, highway, at least two mountain passes and a fair bit of winding country road (my personal favourite). The weather in winter can be interesting but doesn't interfere too much with the rides and then the good months go from October through to late April / early may

Yup she's the spittin' image of my 92 except for the windscreen. I believe yours is OEM for ~91 & later non-US models. Very nice
