Of course as to this we disagree 100%.  A thread to bash someone, really?? Careful or one might sense that it exemplifies that which the OP sought to dispel.

I've been listening to Rush since I've first seen them, in 1974, their first tour, as backup, (opening act) for "Manfred Mann's Earth Band," and the Headliner, "Uriah Heep."  I own all their albums, been to more of their shows than any other band, even my favorite band "Yes."  I've always appreciated them mainly because of Peart's lyrics, which is why he's been known as "The Professor," due to the false rumor that he has a PhD in the Literary Sciences.  His lyrics that I've quoted, I understand only too well, which is why I quote them.  Which is not to say that my use of them, shall not go over ones' head, as that's entirely possible.

A few more things to keep in mind:

If one has talked to few on a forum, it's understood, ("a no brainier;" "goes without saying"), that anything he says he directs to only those to which he's already spoken, I mean who else is there, but the wall.  Therefore anyone new that chimes in, saying anything demeaning or derogatory, when they "believe" they see something naughty, only does so in the interest of groupism; cronyism; to be a bully; part of a mob, because they believe that mobs rule; or they're always searching, looking for anything so as to fight, in either case, they are the ones that are wrong.  Especially when it's their very first attempt at addressing someone, previously only ever lurking, forming an opinion, most often born of preconceived notions that do not "necessarily" have any merit in that particular circumstance.

Additionally If someone makes a blanket (general) statement, it's understood, ("a no brainier;" "goes without saying"), that they are speaking only to those that it "applies" to, who it applies to, knowing who they are, such that those that take offense, then reeling, responding with venomous words, can only be those to which it applies, as the ones that it doesn't, take no offense, and therefore need not reply, as they know they were not being spoken to.  Such can be understood not only by the one making the general statement, but by any wise onlookers, of open mind.

I guard against being a participant of groupism, cronyism, or a mob, because there is no "real" victory in such an endeavor, rather only brute force, devoid of any real wisdom or intellect, not becoming of the modern insightful man of the day, instead a throwback to that of a far more basic man, maybe a neanderthal, though I wouldn't want to insult one. ;)

Am I talking "about" anyone here, or am I explaining my point of view for everyone to judge for themselves?  Is it for the sake of rhetoric? Is it what I have come to finally learn, independent of any particular forum or person? Shall it benefit anyone here, in any way whatsoever?  I cannot answer any of those questions for "anyone" other than myself.  But I believe it's important to ask all those questions of oneself before they respond to another, as if they "know" for "certain" what the answer is.

It's all about the benefit of doubt, which is something I myself am seriously working on, because I'm really sharp, and can often see venom in ones words, whether they realize it or not, sometimes words can be taken in several ways.  And I'm often guilty of taking the worst; for instance:  Early on, I jumped to a conclusion with Franks words, and responded badly, only seeing the worst meaning possible, he corrected me, with much politeness, then I reciprocated and apologized for holding him accountable for my error in judgement, funny then that he quits, so be it, I am only me, and he is only he.

If you really need to bash someone, make it me, I'm used to it, since I was 4, such is the story of my life.  But don't think you're "right" in doing so, as one day you might be drowning, and it's me that jumps in an saves your life, that's the way I am; I know someone that's alive today, because of it.

FJ Forever!   :drinks:

Firstly, my apologies if I have offended you. I must admit I got my back up when reading through one of the threads. As I recall, you mentioned something to the effect that you always defend, never offend. Although that may be your intention and I am not questioning that, please be aware that whether something said or written is considered to be offensive or not is not typically up to the person who said or wrote it. I have done my fair share of offending (hurting, pissing off) others when it was not my intention to do so. So let me reiterate, my apologies if I have offended you and/or others and I sincerely hope that we can continue to keep this forum alive and healthy. And yes, that includes a healthy debate and difference of opinion now and again. I hope you get that FJ of yours running in tip-top shape so you can get out and ride! I've put approximately 90,000 km on my current '92 FJ and and 64,000 km on my previous '86 FJ over the past 20 years and they have been trouble-free...for the most part. My wife says I can get another bike in 4 years but at this time I'm not sure what it would be...

All the best,

And I quote "I originally thought you were one of the intelligent ones here..."  I'm not sure how to not be offended by that...  that sounds pretty judgmental and who the fuck are you anyway?

Then you go on to rant about my mob nature and what the fuck ever.

I said I was done and I am...  I doubt I'm smart enough to give you any advice anyway.

Frank

BTW - you were likely the kind of Enlisted guy I would have knocked heads with...  I think your head would have broken first.  Oh wait... I'm sure you think that's a threat or something.  It's not.  I wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire.

+1 for post of the year for Pat...  Ride that damned thing and save your house.  I think that's the best advice you're going to get here in a nutshell.
Sorry you feel that way Frank, I originally thought you were one of the intelligent ones here, and could easily see when someone was simply DEFENDING themselves against naysayers. I thought you would be well above groupism and cronyism,
upism and cronyism...."

Absolutely...

I was citing Ben's comment about who decides if something is offensive.  I hope it is obvious who I'm trying to talk to here Pat...  Jo is the intended recipient...  I was offended by this particular rant of his and shutdown.  I didn't care enough to explain why, but Zwartie jumped in with a segway that I couldn't resist (wish I had already BTW...  not worth the effort I'm sure).

To be clear I meant +1 Zwartie and FU Jo.  The Navy reference at the end makes it clear I think (I was an Officer in the Navy, Jo was Enlisted...  we had a mini luv-fest over that earlier)
