Of course my first thoughts are how far can it be over bored?  Who makes an exhaust?  Has anyone hacked the ECU yet?  Who makes cams .... Wonder if ......

FJ_Hooligan

I was reading in Motorcyclist that they upgraded the ecu on their long term FZ-09. I would assume it's the same motor

RPM is probably already developing THE exhaust!

FJZ1 1200 - It'll do me just fine.
Timing has much to do with the success of a rain dance.

Let's see, if it's a 900 triple, 78.0 x 59.1mm bore and stroke, the four banger would be 1129cc compared to the stock FJ1200 1188cc, but 59cc is 59cc...

As for the styling, I realized a few years ago, it's not about me, I'm no longer the target market for this styling -

You know who is?

Buyers, mostly a lot younger than I.....

Ummm FJ?, nope. I know designs and styling change over the years, but all of the current bikes that look like this are to me, damn ugly.

Eye of the beholder and all that, but FJ?   I don't think so.  "F" is for 4 ain't it?
There's nothing you can do that can't be done.

You would think if Yamaha was making a medium size sport tourer out of the FZ-09 they could make it more attractive. I guess their target market is riders already familiar with the FZ-09 (younger riders). This old man prefers good looking bikes and good looking women of course.
A pistol is like a parachute, if you need one and don't have one you will never need one again.

At first I thought this was an ADV style bike and as such, I don't mind the look at all.  I was also pretty excited about the 3-cylinder 100+ HP torquey engine and an approximate weight coming in at 150 pounds lighter than my FJ1200!  This was starting to look like my next bike!  You see, I'm drawn to dirt roads for some reason...I can't explain it, but others here will back me up on this.

Then I saw the limited travel forks, cast wheels and the really poor exhaust pipes and muffler position and this is a street tourer?  Now I'm with everyone here...It's damned ugly for a street sport-tourer.

Now if they would bring the Tenere XT660Z to the states, I might get interested.

Or in an ideal world, build me a Tenere with the FZ(FJ)-09 847cc, three cylinder, 107HP engine for about $9,500 and 450 lbs and we're in business!   :good2:

You know it's funny Ron, one bike that Yam bought out I really liked the look of was the TDM850,  but these current futuristic designs just look messy. You sure you wouldn't like the XTZ1200 Super Tenere instead?

Funny you should mention that bike!  I've been looking at the 1200CC Super Tenere for quite a while.  I chatted with a guy riding one on the Blue Ridge Parkway back in 2012 and that was in my mind for the rest of my trip.  When I found myself on dirt roads...or avoiding dirt roads...I thought about a second bike more in the ADV style/function.  The  XTZ1200 is a big beast...nearing the weight of the FJ1200.  I really don't think I want that much bike off the road.

In reading more about this (did a search for "Yamaha Tenere rumors"), there's a lot of speculation of Yamaha coming out with a 2015 replacement for the existing XT660Z Tenere single (Well underpowered for its weight).  Most of the talk is aimed at a Tenere with the 847cc triple (108 HP) from the FZ-09...or with the ~700cc parallel twin (74 HP) from the FZ-07.  Either of those bikes should come in at around 450 pounds and be simple...both of which appeal to me.  Whether they show up state side is a different issue.

The potential 2015 Honda Africa Twin crf1000 is also very interesting!
