My normally very smooth running 84 FJ started showing some vibration in the mirrors and I thought it might be time for new plugs. I have put 8k on the bike since purchased so knew the spark plugs had at least this much on them. Old plugs looked very good and installed new. Inspected battery terminals that were oxidized and cleaned them. Runs smooth as silk once again. Unfortunately did not do these two operations separately with a test ride in between so don't know which one it might have been.  Dave
A pistol is like a parachute, if you need one and don't have one you will never need one again.

Ran into this same exact scenario last night on my way back from dinner with the wife on back. Running along smooth as glass then a sudden vibration and lack of power. Felt like it dropped a cylinder so I limped it back to the shed. I'll grab plugs tonight, hopefully that gets it going again.
Yamahas from my past,
IT465, IT200, YZ80. 350Warrior, Kodiak400, Kodiak450,
Various others include
XR600, KX500, KDX200, ATC250R, ATC350X, ATC 200S
Currently ride
FJ 1200 , DRZ400, Yamaha Viking, Suzuki Samurai dirt mobile

Anytime I would get a lack of power while going down the road the first no cost test is to crack open your fuel cap and see if it clears while limping home.
A lot of things can cause it but that's what I would do first.  Let us know what you find out.

Four new NGK plugs and it's running smooth as silk again. Plugs looked good too, had  a slight brown burn so I'm happy with the mixture. I'll be taking extra plugs when I start to travel for sure. :good2:
