Almost there....

No mods to speak of, just a cleanup and scheduled maintenance for its mileage.  And paint. Can't wait to shoot the new paint.

Lookin' good! Are you shooting stock colors, or something else?

Mark, you know what I'll be doing soon, but the bike will only (read should only) be out of service for a week tops. Come on - it's like L.A. Mike says, we're year round here. Just come down to Napa instead of Tahoe. Oh yeah, like anytime.

Andy

I just may head your way after the tinkering is done, I was still out riding it with the bad slave and fanning the clutch at the stoplights.
Let me know when you go Mark, I for one feel like harassing Andy. And of course helping him wrench. BTW I may have some FJ carb parts the both of you might get some use out of.

It is that time of year again , the holidays are upon us and the 86 fj is just about ready for it's winter nap.

so as I can't leave well enough alone. I must once again give in to my modification urges.

I will be installing ........
fzr front wheel
new rotors
fjr clutch master (this will fix my mismatched lever disorder)
spin on filter
clutch slave rebuild
new chain and sprockets
new rear axle
perform normal maint and cleaning and polishing.

that should keep me busy for a few days.

What are the rest of you gonna do?

About the clutch master cylinder mod, Will any FJ, FJR Clutch master cylinder match up o an '85? I don't even see rebuild kits available for it? Thanks

Mark and Jason,
let the harassment commence. And any other fj botherers, who fancy a spin through the valleys. Eyes on the weather as it's forecast a soggy winter. However, that said, you tend to find some clear crisp weekends they really lend themselves to canyon carving.
BTW - that's one 'too be proud of, super shiny steed' junkyardroad. Dig the sparkly blue - what a feature.

Next week - all things being equal - my fj falls under the spanner.

Nice, I like the blue.  Are you doing one solid colour?
The blue I used matched my Givi lids.  Made for a nice look.

Stack,

yes you  can put a fjr master on your 85 and as far as I know any stock fj will fit as well.

No mods for me per say.. just general maintenance stuff..

'87 has a leaky fork seal, needs the Ohlins shock rebuilt, some wiring clean up.  See if I can swing a FJR clutch m/c & braided line.

'86 needs a set of valve seals before I put it up for sale next spring.  Not looking forward to that...

Ninja 250 has a leaky fork seal, needs chain and sprockets, fuel tank painted, wheels powder coated, better fork springs and minor repair to upper faring so I can put the lower faring back on.  Not sure if I'll keep the 250 or also put it up for sale this spring.

Man, I just looked at your avatar and saw the future of my bike, 'cept I have a Nonfango? top case. They say great minds think alike?

I laid the PPG books out on the hood of my red 54 F250 and stared at them until they stared back.
There are some really cool combos I'd like to shoot but ultimately a single solid color is simplest.

Appreciate the positive feedback.  This is the first bike of its kind for me.

Except this one.

Junkyard,
Make sure we all get pictures of the bike once the blue is on.
I was trying to decide if I want to go with Blue(I was thinking something like the later Subaru WRX blue that I have seen) or go All Black.

Fork, wheels, swingarm, I like all of that bike. You are the man.  I have some damage to my chin scoop that I'm going to paint over and try to hide with some bedliner.  Maybe like a wide black stripe.

The damage to the plastic was worse than I thought from when the PO laid it down in loose gravel.  Can't fault the guy though, it was pretty deep.  Besides, he was selling because he got the big C. Can't chisel him too hard.

And I guess there are some mods I'm doing.  I have Racetech emulators and a K&N filter to add, plus some really bitching $9 a quart oil...  I can't wait to hear it run again. I wanted to replace the drive chain and at least get some cool sprockets but the old stuff was like new under a heavy layer of grease.

What is that bar above the clutch cover?
