When I try to start the bike up it seems to try to start but gas starts to leake from the overflow tube on the ground. Any ideas on what to check?

Yep, check the Carb Files. Everything you need to know to fix the problem is in the Files

Wmbair,

Check the engine oil level at the sight window.  If the oil level is suddenly too high, then gasoline is getting into the crankcase.
If that is so, fix the carbs, sure, but change the diluted oil before you run the engine.

If it was sitting for three years, and nothing was done for proper prepping the fuel system for its storage, there's a number of possible issues in the fuel system that could arise. Rust in the fuel tank for one. You can do a thorough cleaning of the carbs, but it's all for not, if rust from the fuel tank migrates into the carbs afterwards.

The link provided to you earlier for cleaning is a helpful, but inadequate from a graphical standpoint, because there are NO pictures to guide you. A few times since that document was introduced here, a number of other forum members here have posted their cleaning and adjusting of their carbs extensively, AND with pictures, which are extremely helpful when going through this procedure. As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. I wish I had a link to one of those great posts for you, but I do not. Perhaps, one of the members here has saved a link to one of them, and in their compassion of knowing the difficulties that you're (as many of us have already) facing, will post a link for you.

You have other options if you have the coin to do so. Send your carb bank to RPM Racing, for a thorough inspection, diagnosis, cleaning and repair. Or buy a new set of carbs from that establishment.

Good luck on your endeavors.
