how do you adjust the #3 buttterfly vave during a bench sync

took out the carbs to try to bench sync them. youtube video shows to use a guitar string to sync. I tried that starting from the carb to the right of the idle screw. btw the video did not make it clear where the starting point with the idle screw should be, so I guessed it should be touching the bottom of the main throttle piece. went to the next carb over to the far right, synced up. then the other two valves are adjusted together with one screw- the problem is they are both different. the outside carb I could set but the inside carb was closed.it does move fine with the throttle. how do I adjust it to match the outside one? any help? thanks

Haven't seen your video, but I would assume (yeah, I know) that you'd use the same 3 adjusting screws on the linkage you use when doing a vacuum sync with the bike running.  First you adjust the left pair of carbs to be the same (either vac or opening position),
then you adjust the right pair of carbs to be the same (either vac or opening position), then you use the middle linkage adjusting screw to get each pair the same (either vac or opening position).

Not that I'm trying to be negative, but personally I wouldn't use anything metal between the butterfly and throat, as they could be scratched/buggered up and subsequently leak air.  Wood sounds good, maybe oak or maple. Or plastic, the last time I used the leftover plastic straw from a can of air.

When I'd bench synch the FCRs, I always used the shank of a small drill bit -- smooth and precision ground to size
