Tank Cover for an '84 FJ?

Hey folks,

     Do any of you know of any place where I can get a tank cover for my FJ?  My tank paint is in good shape but has some marks on it that won't come off (I think old gasoline stains).  I'd like to keep the addition of any more marks to a minimum.  Cheers in advance for any info.

 if you are talking about the tank bra kind of covers then i dont think you will be happy with one... they will cause more damage than they protect from..... there are however some protective materials that can be applied to the tank that will protect the finish.

both apply similarly.... the invisishield is a little thinner , clearer and will do compound curves.... the 3M stuff is tougher ,still pretty clear but since it is slightly thicker it is more noticeable.. it sticks strong and works well in high impact/wear places..... like the front of the chin spoiler/upper fairing.

the beauty of this stuff is when it gets scratched/dirty you can easily peel it right off and put a fresh piece on.


now if you are just trying to cover up a bad place i would recommend a sticker.... something like those bullet hole stickers

This has been my experience as well.

A clear protective cover WOULD be better, IMO.

Bagster makes a great full tank cover for the FJ which also allows you to mount a tank bag as well. Looks good with a choice of colors. I have been using one for several years with no issues.

If I'd gone with something like the 3M stuff instead of a tank bra, my FJ would probably still have very nice paint on the tank.

Instead, a minor tipover resulted in major paint damage before the tank bra could be removed, way too big for a bullet hole sticker to cover.

My experience with the Bagster cover and tank bag are similiar to Rick's.
Looks good and has protected the tank for years now.  I've had no problems or issues with it at all.

Thanks for the info!  It got a bit hectic around here so my apologies for the slow reply.  I think I'm going to look into the Bagster setup.  There are no dents or dings, just the paint is getting a little thin where your knees come in contact with the tank.  I just don't want it to get any worse.  Cheers again for the info!
