Thanks everybody, for the suggestions and welcomes...

Pat, the new brake and clutch lines are on order.  Petcock will get safetied until I can figure out a way to replace it with a manual petcock that doesn't fall apart.

Monkey, absolutely... let's get together sometime.  Glendale is close.

Skymaster... well, you haven't see me riding the new bike because it's down for a little maintenance. (see attached photo)  I pulled the front end off for the rebuild and stem bearing replacement.  Figured I might as well pull off the rear suspension and go thru it.  After that, there wasn't much left, and the leaking clutch master did a good job of removing the paint off that side of the frame.  Figured I might as well get it over with...

Next step is to send carbs off to Randy for a rebuild.  I could do it myself but he is so cheap, why bother?  Let the expert do it.  While they are gone, I'll sandblast the frame and repaint.  Engine will get a good cleaning and several gaskets replaced.  Fork rebuild,  GPS speedo, and put it all back together with new hardware to replace the wrong/worn stuff.  Hey, I got the new tires mounted today!

Actually, I did run into a minor snag.  While trying to remove the steering stem, the top nut was frozen.  It would NOT budge.  Tried everything but eventually had to force it off with a 3/4" drive impact wrench.  Of course, it destroyed the threads on the stem.  Apparently, they are no longer available so I'll need to weld up the bad area and cut new threads on my lathe.  Not hard, just a little time-consuming.  I'll take pics of the process if anyone wants to see.

Ok, here's what the bike looks like today...

Are you over by the sky park? And, YOU HAVE A LATHE?!  I would love to play in your garage for a day. :-)

CutterBill

Mike,
yeah... I'm on the Skypark.  And yes on the lathe... it's a Graziano SAG12.  Also got a Bridgeport vertical mill, MIG, sheet metal brake and shear, and a giant drill press that I need to rebuild.  Stop by anytime...
