A 'new' stable mate...

I came back from a two week vacation, out east in Nova Scotia, a week past Friday...to find an '86, with 99,000Kms, (61,875 miles), sitting on my trailer, on my driveway, courtesy of Peter, one of my brothers

Long story short, he picked it up at a local auto wreckers...she had been dropped off there by the previous owner!! Apparently, the old girl had packed up on him on the way home from work...He called out a tow truck, got her home, stuck her in the back yard, put a tarp over her and there she sat for the next five years, until he rang the wreckers.
Now this old girl is a wee bit bedraggled, to put it mildly ...kind of scruffy with a load of twigs, leaves and such like blown in to various orifices and of course, a mouse nest where the battery should be and on in to the air box, a wee mansion this rodent had set up!!! The gas tank had a fair amount of water, tinted with gas, in her!! The carbs were totally plugged up with green algae and gunk...the list goes on for a bike sitting outside for five years.

A week down track, carbs stripped down, ultra sonic cleaned, rebuilt, installed (with an 'eye' sync) and back on the old girl they went this afternoon...pony tank attached, fresh gas, new battery installed, ignition on and...drum roll please....BOOM!!! SHE'S ALIVE, ALIVE I TELL YA BOYS AND GIRLIES and runs like a well oiled machine should

The carbs were sync'd correctly and she just purrrrrrs...

Now the rest of the work will continue at haste...tires, oil/filter change, free up the brakes, etc, etc.

This old girl is now awake and will be road worthy in a week or two. A new owner is already lined up

Oh...just in case you may be wondering why she quit five years ago.......she had blown the main 30 amp fuse!!!

Good find, and blessed be you for the Resurrection.. Had a friend years ago with an mg midget. Had a problem with it, so he parked it for two years.. turned out to be a $20.00 part..

Not rare, just rare to see RUNNING!!!

  Updater...

Here is where we are at, in no particular order of work...

Carbs: strip down, clean in ultra sonic cleaner, rebuilt and synced...old girl runs like a top 

Gas tank: remove, drain off old gas/water mixture, (phew, stinky!!...great weed killer!!), flushed and reinstalled. Petcock and gas cap removed, strip, cleaned, lubed and reinstalled.

Front brake master cylinder: Remove, strip, clean, rebuilt and reinstalled...

Front/rear bake calipers: remove, serviced, lubed, reinstalled with new pads and bled off.

Replaced all fuses with Blow 'n Glow...if they blow they light up

ALL light bulbs, (dash, signal indicators, rear light, etc), removed and replaced with new ones.

Front/rear wheel bearings and chain: cleaned, checked and re-greased/lubed.

Front/rear tires replaced...

Due to rust holes, the oem slip on mufflers where replaced with a set I had in the loft.

Battery replaced.

All electrical connections pulled apart, cleaned, smeared with dielectric grease and reconnected.

Engine oil/filter changed.

Air filter changed...after a mouse chewed out the old one!!

Spark plugs removed, cleaned, gapped and reinstalled.

I know there is more...memory fade ...

The fairing is up at my brothers place...he is repairing several fractures, cracks, etc, before being reinstalled. Awaiting delivery, (from RPM), of a clutch slave rebuild kit and foam grips. I'll order up a new windshield this weekend...and so the work continues

It is amazing what a little TLC will do to an old bike.  Probably at least every 20 or 30 years they need a complete detailed inspection, R&R all systems, and deep cleaning.  .  Sounds like a fun project. Post some pictures when you can.
