The oil level light on my 1992 FJ1200 is coming on e very so often but I'm not low on oil.It isn't really consistant with any RpM or temp and the oil, though getting close to change time, appears fairly clean.
Does this llight serve a double duty? Or is this a common issue? Bad sensor maybe
Again, I am not low on oil.and it is not consistant with an oil pressure problem.
thanks

The oil light is attached to a float assy in the oil pan. Are you sure you're not low on oil?  Is the level at the 'full' mark in the sight glass?  1/2 way in the sight glass = low oil level.

Tory,

The low oil "sensor" is just a float.  Rapid acceleration and going up hills can make the oil run to the rear of the crankcase.  Then the light will come on, more often when the oil level is somewhat low.  The bulb is powered with the ignition switch, and grounded by the float, so the bulb will also come on if there is any place where the "oil sensor wire" is chafed and touching ground.  Check the wire bundle, from the crankcase to the gauges.
Cheers,

Thank you both for the reply, it is not low on oil.I check it the first time it came on and added barely 4oz to bring it to the full mark, but light still. Comes on periodically. Not necessarily at heavy load or lean but maybe more when cool.
I will.che k the wires but was more concerned it was also a pressure switch or something.
Could it get sticky?

Good to be concerned and check things out, but nope, not a pressure switch, just an oil level indicator.. It's my understanding, and I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong.. The oil pressure in the FJ engines is at or near full pressure even at idle..

Just over fill slightly... Engineers always keep some tolerance in their back pocket.

My oil light came on and stayed on just as I had reassembled her after checking valve clearances, my girl loves lotsa attention...
I traced the fault to a broken wire in the wiring from the left handle bar switch block leading into the wiring loom, am no in the process of fault finding...

Good luck
