During a run today in SW Scotland I got buzzed by an RAF jet & I caught it on my helmet camera. At 43s on the video you can see the shadow of the aircraft flashing past.

Wow... That sounded loud on video, must have been checking who you were.

mz_rider

The camera picks up a lot of wind noise so I turned the volume down on the video, so yes, the 'plane was bloody loud. I've heard that they use vehicles on remote roads for target practice (no shooting, luckily!)

Another time and place, that could be the "last shadow" you ever see. (movie Avatar reference).

Actually on that note, I've never forgotten, and never will . . . being driven into Damascus, Syria, from the airport in 1977 when tensions in the Middle East were high. Like a lot of airports even in North America, it was way out from the city on a bleak and featureless highway.
The driver kept checking the sky and I couldn't see anything worth noting. Finally in English I asked our host what the driver was looking for. He explained that the week before, the Syrian fighter pilots got their asses kicked by the Israelis so on the way back to base, they strafed cars on the highway to let out their frustration. In their own country to their own people! That never made it to mainstream news but stuff like that goes on in the rest of the world.

Hopefully if I ever get back to Scotland one last time before I croak, the RAF will treat me more kindly as I roam the highlands.
If someone wants to see any images I refer to in posts, first check my gallery here. If no bueno, send me a PM. More than glad to share.

Very cool vid MZ.

A few years back I was on an aussie Frigate participating in 'FOST' exercises and they were using Hawks to simulate missiles.

Impressive show, sobering thought.

The city I live in is home to the largest airforce base in Australia, so you see and hear that type of thing all the time. Bloody annoying when you visit relatives who live near the base, the noise at times is deafening.

Too young to be old but old enough to know better.

You lucky thing Tony. I love visiting Amberley and seeing the planes taking off/landing etc. (part of me just never grows up lol )

When they had the Indy races on the Gold Coast, the F111s used to do the flyover at the track, I'd be watching on TV, I'd count 45 seconds, run outside and see them roar over the house on the way back to Amberley. Good times!

If you hadn't slowed it down and circled the jet I'd have missed it - too awed by the scenery.  Awesome video, beautiful country.  Thanks for posting.

Beautiful scenery, thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the comments. If you liked that scenery you'll love this. A run up Glen Clunie from Braemar to the Glenshee Ski Centre in the east Highlands. I had to take it easy on the last half of the video because they had recently surfaced dressed the road (spread stone chips on tar) and there was a lot of loose stones about.
