progresive spring direction

i am reasembling my front forks new bushes and seals but i have forgot which way the progressive go into the tubes
is it the tighter wound end of spring that goes to the bottom

As far as spring function goes it does not matter. However most forks I have worked on that had progressive springs oriented the tighter winding up top.

As the fan states, and according to Progressive Suspension, it doesn't matter what end is installed. See 3. in their document...

If you have the option, ditch the progressive springs for straight rate springs. And if you can afford it, get the valves (and straight rate springs) from RPM, they are awesome.... 170 pounds (or 77KG), I have .85 rated springs and they work quite well on my twisty runs in the hills.

I agree with fjmonkey. Even if you don't do anything with the valving.  I went to 95kg springs. I weigh 225 run a tank bag and a rear top box most of the time.

straight rate springs and rpm valves will defiantly be installed in the future
Only just got the fj on the road, and I still have alot to sort out first
I am 85kg and i will be raising the rear suspension height and I like braking hard into corners like i am still on my fzr250
what straight spring rate do you guys recommend

Straight rate with out RPM valves 0.95 to 1.0 KG, with the RPM valves 0.85 to 0.90. Not including any passenger or luggage. I am closer to 78KG and like the RPM valves with 0.85KG springs and might be good with 0.80 springs. The RPM valves rock!!! Others will chime on spring rates, we all like what works for the way we ride. Not as bad as an oil thread.... Get a ride on an FJ with RPM valves and you will be drinking the RPM Koolaid...
