I wouldn't use brake clean on them...

Think he meant the rubber...  they wouldn't stay on.

So thanks again and a special thanks to Robert at RPM refurbing the carbs. He emailed and called me to made sure he had the scoop on what they needed to for jetting based on my riding style and the even the weather in the northeast. He went the extra mile plus. great service.

Thank you for the compliment, I have already passed along you appreciation to Robert as well.

Thanks again and enjoy the ride, Randy - RPM

Just to clarify, I wasn't advocating cleaning the filters with contact cleaner, just the rubber and where it slips over the carb.

I also use Dawn and warm water to clean the filter media.

I was cleaning the rubber boots also. Good tip on the dish soap & water for the foam filter. I'll remember that one. First time using foam filters. Do you just clean them when they look dirty?

Yeah, that's the way I do it.  I check them at each oil change (5K kms) which seems often enough unless I've been on gravel roads a lot.
