when my 92 fj1200 is on the centre stand both wheels are still touching the ground.its this right? i thought the rear wheel should be off the ground.also it does not sit level[bike rocks from side to side].i took off centre stand and it looks straight[not bent].also when i put the bike on the side stand it seems to lean over too far.do these bikes lean quite a bit on this stand?i have only just took the bike out for my first run today.it had been on a paddock stand while i was doing it up.

Stock FJ rear wheel is off the ground about an inch to an inch and a half on the center stand. Sounds like somebody has modified the suspension.

My '92 rear tire is off the floor by exactly 1" when on the center stand.  I'm about as stock as you get, with a little bit of rear tire wear, level garage floor and the front wheel straight.

As has been mentioned...sounds like you have suspension mods or possibly taller tires?

I agree with the previous posts, Sounds like your rear suspension has been modified. After market shock?, Shortened dog bones?, or both.

As for the un-even stance while on the center stand. I can think of 2 things.

1. The center stand bolts are loose, or one is missing.

2. The bolt holes in the center stand or the frame mounting holes are elongated.

As Ferd mentioned someone might have modified the dog bones to raise the rear up.  Check the dog bones. Look to see if they appear factory or modified.

dog bones??? what are they?

aviationfred

In the photo the dog bones are in the center of the photo just behind the center stand mounting holes (silver in color). They connect your shock to the swing arm. Your dog bones will be significantly shorter than the ones pictured.

Skik,

Index 15 on this Parts Breakdown.  They set how far the rear wheel can travel up and down.

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.

Here is a stock 1990 FJ dog bone (there are 2 of them). The shock is different than yours just ignore that.  When the dog bones are shortened up it raises the rear of the bike (driving the rear wheel lower when it is on the center stand). A fairly common mod.

In most cases if they are made by someone here in the U.S. it is with flat bar and most likely will be a straight piece of flat bar (will not look like a "dog bone").
There are some adjustable ones on the market also.

Just for information, dog bones are only used on the 1988-1993 FJ's. (no 88's were sold here in the U.S.) Earlier FJ's have a different linkage set up.

Just more information. Let us know what you find out. A picture helps also if you can.

Stock length for your 92 should be 125 mm center of hole to center of hole. Hope this helps. If you can post some pictures that would be a big help.

these bones look like a bit of straight metal.not stock[i think].do you think maybe they are not level and that is what is putting the stand off?]][/img][/img]

FJmonkey

They will not affect the center stand not being level, just the rear wheel position at rest.
