clutch rebuild

ok, a little backstory then lets get to the upcoming project.

rebuilt my brakes and flushed my clutch last weekend.
lines are good, clean, holding pressure, and the squish seems to have worked itself out rather nicely.
ran it up to 8000 a couple times today, pulls smoothly through the entire band. didn't even notice the transition onto the main jets.
stuck at a stoplight, gassed it enough to get a little lift on the front tire, hit 2nd, gassed it some more, clutch slipped. full slip, not just a hesitation.
not getting any slippage on the freeway, even at 8k. must've just been the workload but it's slipping so I gotta rebuild that.

gonna break out my manual and read through the procedure but Randy if you could suggest which parts to buy and a cost-estimate that would be supremely helpful.

secondly, i'm noticing since I rode it hard it almost stutters at low speeds (city-speed). like it isn't getting enough gas or something.
it's not severe but it's noticeable. makes the ride a little rough.
still rides great on the freeway though, i'm sure more work needs to be done than just the clutch but this is where I am, currently.

oh, one other thing. I couldn't crack 5500 in 5th gear but tac'd 8000 fairly easy in 4th, is that normal?

If it's only "slipping" under hard acceleration in second gear then you have the "jumping out of 2nd gear" problem.

What you are describing is not a slipping clutch. If the clutch was slipping in fifth gear when you twist the throttle the engine would rev up but the bike would not accelerate. Sounds like a fuel delivery problem to me. Follow the trouble shooting procedure in your manual.

tell me more.

it's not slipping in 5th, kurt. it just wouldn't accelerate past 5500rpm.
i'll look it up in the book like you said, maybe i'll get lucky and that's the explanation for the bumpy ride i'm getting in town.

A slipping clutch is something you find in the in the higher gears. Jumping out of second gear was a problem the early models had. Long fixed by the time your 92 came out. Everything you have described is a fuel problem. Junk from the tank getting in the carbs? Plugged fuel filter? Fuel pump not working correctly? JMO Hope this helps.
