Speedo cable came unscrewed

Noticed the speedo had stopped working on a ride this morning then noticed the speedo cable dragging from the front wheel.
It was a bugger to reach up in there and screw it back on and hard to get torque on it to tighten it down but it's done.
Does this happen very often? I'll check it all the time now.

Yup, that happened to me, and to my Dad (2x).  Solution was to put several tie wraps together to chain the cable to the speedo head.  IIRC, I tied 2-3 together to make a short chain, then 1 tie to attach the chain to the headlight subframe, and another tie to attach the chain to the cable.  If you adjust the lengths, the speedo cable will be unable to detach w/o cutting a wrap.
The bugger hasn't fallen off ever since!

There's not a lot of room up in there, did you take anything off to do that?

Except for the fairing, no.   :praising:

Yes, its very difficult to get a hand up there, and even more difficult to put any torque on that collar to tighten it.
If you have a tool called a: "basin wrench" it is easy.
These are used by plumbers to attach supply tubes to faucets.

Cable ties are also a good idea.

Spend 20 secs undoing the bolt that holds the horn on. You can not only get your hand up there easily but also pliers or multigrips to tighten it.

I'll have to to that tomorrow Noel.
It took a bunch of tries to get the threads started, and you're right, I couldn't get any torque on it.  I was near a friend's house and stopped in and borrowed a phillips screwdriver and took the left scoop off thinking I would have better access, but no.

Clean up the threads and a drop of blue thread locker problem solved.

This happened to me with the cable dragging on my first ride after paying and getting the title.
