Ok, after two frustrating weeks of searching for a 84/85 cap to replace my broken one, I pondered a way to make my 92 cap fit on my 84 tank. The hole is the same and it fit and closed setting it in place. I filed down the edges of the mounting ring till it fit in the tank recess ,siliconed the mounting point, and screwed it into the one tank screwhole that lined up. Like magic it worked beautifully! Then we took some measurements and my genius 16 year old son 3/D printed a ring that fit under the cap and hideing the mounts. Once again I posted a pic in the gallery because I still cant figure out puting pics into my posts. Help anyone?   And of course someone has now found me a 84 tank with cap I can pick up cheap...thanks dude. Anyway, I can still go back to the stock cap when I get one. So necessity being the mother of invention, anything is possible!     Have a great day everyone, and go ride if you can!                                                            Charley

You should think about making a diagram with the dimensions. I know of a half dozen or so 1100 owners that have searched for gas caps to no avail.

I agree with Fred.  Nice mod ! Let us know how it works out in the long term.  I got the concept but am wondering about the silicon.  Probably my lack of visualization.  Good on you for pushing the envelope !

Life isn't about having the best, but about making the best of what you have...

Of course as an inventor and entrepreneur I'm always open to any side gigs... ha ha. Yes we have dimensions for this and can make more rings if anyone's interested. It turned out pretty good, if you didn't know the tank design you probably wouldn't look twice at it.And from now on I will spell-check my posts.                      Ride-on!                                                                                                                                                                                                              Charley

Awesome! Replace the silicon with three bond 1211 and your good to go.

Did you say your son 3D printed that part?

If a guy could print some side scoops..digitizing the scoops would probably be the hardest part of the project.....hmmmmmm.

The black ring is 3/D printed, With a scanner or exact dimensions side scoops could be printed, almost any part can be made as long as it ll fit in the printer. The pieces may have to be polished also if its a smooth item such as those scoops. Unfortunately they dont have a scanner so the parts have to be designed on a CAD program. So it is possable                                                                                                                                                            Charley
