Alexandre Neves

Hello everyone.
As is good manners and customary I would like to say hello to everyone on this forum and a great thank you for all the wisdom shared with us all.
I am Alexandre (going on 40 in a couple of months) and live in Lisbon, Portugal. Have been riding bikes for about 11 years now, allways calm and "educated" bikes. My last one was a 650 Deauville that served me very well and took me to various trips around Iberia, including a couple of winter meets (Pinguinos) without as so much as a hick-up. I liked the wind protection, driving position and fuss free maintenance this bike gave me.
As I am a spanner minded fellow, the next bike had to be mechanically simple and reliable, a bit more power for two-up overtaking and long distance comfortable. For a couple of months I searched the net, talked to other riders and in one conversation the FJ popped up. I confess that at the time I had no idea of the bike, but the more I read, the interest began to build.
I arranged for a test drive from a guy that was selling his, and I liked what I saw(drove), but that one was a little too much work for me so I continued looking.
In one of the selling sites in Portugal, a nice little FJ 1200, with 80k (kms) appeared, with an interesting price and description to match. Exchanged a couple of mails with the owner and the replies I kept receiving where promising. We arranged a meeting half way (we were 400kms apart) and I test drove it. Everything was just as he described and the bike looked honest.  We finalized the sale and off I went for my first trip returning to Lisbon "the long way round". I chose roads with nice open corners and good tarmac, and all the trip I just smiled with a grin from ear to ear. Loved the power delivery, driving position and general feel of the bike.
Once home, have started to do the usual initial maintenance procedures (lube, clean electrical contacts, change all filters, change oils and general inspection).
I am sure sooner or later a question will pop up from my side, even though almost everything is covered in this forum.
Once again thank you all for sharing your knowledge which helped me feel more comfortable in buying this bike, knowing that if i had a problem, I could come here and search/ask.
as we say here in Portugal, great bends to everyone.

Welcome Alexandre, very nice introduction. It is not hard to fall in love the FJ, looks like you fell in a big way.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Welcome Alexandre!. I´m going to visit your fantastic country this summer (again!). And this time I think to pass 3 days to know Lisbon with my wife... er... yes, my FJ, but I was speaking about my HUMAN wife

Hello Alf.

Thank you for your greeting message. I must congratulate you on your site, as it was one of those that I read before buying my FJ. Have had it for a week and am loving it. Changed oil and filters, and am now thinking of what to do about luggage.

It seems Lisbon is going to be flooded with Madrilenhos soon for the Champions League Final. Are you coming over ? If so we must get in touch. If not, give me a call / message closer to the summer.

Hola Alexandre

Even although I born in Madrid, I live in Tenerife, Canary Island... and I don´t like football at all,  :ireful:

I will visit Lisbon next July and yes, I will stay in contact with you, thank you

Maybe you could come to our 30th anniversary rally in Madrid on June 29th. You have the details in mi web, Spanish section, and here

I could help you to find an economic hotel to stay or send it the routes or ... Riding an FJ you could say that simply you´re going to have a coffee with your friends

Obrigado

Alexandre Neves

Mui bien Alf ...

Si Senhor ... belo programa de encontro em Madrid.

I cannot promise anything but I will try to make it on the 29th in Madrid. Maybe i will have a cofee and a pincho. Its only 600 kms each way .. that means .. hmmmm

Otherwise we will meet up in Lisbon and I will take you around if you like.

De nada
