Hey all
I wont be making it for the Niagara clinic in the morn though I might drive if I get directions?? I took the stock exhaust system off to try and fix a kind of phffftt sound on start up got some new exhaust rings so will fit em. Boy this exhaust is heavy anybody got something used that is lighter?
While here I am going to replace the sump gasket which is already off, any tricky stuff I should know when replacing it? Got the Suzuki back wheel on and the 3.5 front with discs and made up brake lines, want to check valve clearance's before I put the tank on. Was hoping to know what shims I would need by clinic time but this ain't going to happen.

Chiz,

I have Vance & Hines headers on my 1985, much lighter.  If not available, eBay might find them for you.  They block the oil drain plug, fair warning.

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.

Thanks
I went to see a Super Trap a while back but was warned it was loud so I did not bother. At my age loud is only for the track anything much more than the stock system is too much for me. Anyone know if I should use some kind of gasket cement with the Cometic sump gasket? Its inner core seems to be very thin steel.

The Suppertrap I have can be tuned with disks, more disks open the pipe up, less adds restriction. So you can have a tame ST exhaust if you want.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

I would advise against using any type of sealing material on your gasket. The small amount that oozes out when you torque the bolts down, will later, come off and clog oil passages, oil filters, the sump oil filter screen and otherwise cause havoc inside your engine.

No kidding I ripped the screen plate off the oil return pipe at the bottom of the crankcase for cleaning in preparation for sump replacement... there was all kinds of strings and bits of gasket maker compound up in the screen, guess it was doing its job
