Good Morning FJ riders!

I'm Terry, from Austin, Tx. I owned my FJ, an '86 1200, for about 6 years. I bought it from the friend that got me into riding bikes in the first place, so it was a big part of my introduction into riding. When he bought a new bike, I snapped up the FJ almost before the ink dried on the title. Fast forward a few years, several thousand miles, marriage, and a new baby boy, and sadly, it was time to let the FJ go. I sold it to a friend, with the understanding that I got first crack at it if he ever decided to sell. You see where this is going-I'm getting my baby back this week! Due to some health issues, he's not riding anymore, and the FJ is coming back home to me. Here are a few pics, I'll continue the story later...

The first pics are getting it cleaned up and ready to go to it's new owner. Sometimes you gotta take it apart to get really clean.

I knew I'd met the right girl when she sat on the back of that thing for a week of touring through New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, and Arizona. She loved the ride, or loved me enough to lie, either way she was the one! Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, Moab, Lake Powell, the Rockies, I could go on and on.

Two pics from a hill country ride we did in '05 just before my boy was born. I'm doin' the "pose" (yeah, I'm a big 'ol dork). My friend and his wife riding the FJ's replacement (ZRX1100).

The last ride the FJ and I went on, beautiful roads through Arkansas.

Howdy and a happy 2222 to you. Glad to see you got your pony back. I'm guessing that photo of the hill county ride was shot on Highway 16 in Bandera.  I went by there quit a bit when I lived in Uvalde and regularly escaped to Austin for a taste of civilization.

Congrats on finding the perfect woman too.  Live long and prosper and don't forget to Keep Austin Weird!

There's nothing you can do that can't be done.

The hill country ride pics are the "pose" and with my friends on the ZRX. Both taken in Fredericksburg. We made our way down through Kerrville to Lost Maples state park along the Rio Frio. Great ride! The last pic with the ZRX and my other buddy's GpZ 750 is from our Arkansas ride-location forgotten. Thanks for the warm welcome, I'm just itchin' to get in the saddle again! My brother is picking up the bike and bringing it down to me this weekend. Gotta go make room in the garage.............

Howdy Fred, thanks for the welcome! I'll definitely have to look up the other members here in Austin, and statewide eventually. I've got a lot of riding to catch up on, both on the FJ and on my KZ1000 when it's up and running.

If you are up for a ride back to Arkansas this summer, meet and ride with some other FJ owners. The Central FJ Rally is being held in Dogpatch AR. July 17-20.

Sounds like a blast! Unfortunately, we're going on a cruise during those dates this summer. I know my riding buddies in the DFW area like to hit the roads in Arkansas, maybe we can meet up with some FJ riders another time.

Terry,
Welcome to the forum!
I met up with some FZ1 riders at the Hub this last weekend, put about 400 miles under the tires on Saturday, had a blast running the hills with some very good riders. PM me before you come to Arkansas anytime you might head this way, I will be glad to meet up with you if I can work it out with my work schedule.

I went to Austin for the moto gp. Love the 80mph toll road. That you don't have to stop for any tolls. Stayed at Inks lake campgrounds. And the hills and roads are great around Austin. I think I could live there.

Thanks so much for the warm welcome from everyone, I'm happy to be here. So, today is FJ day! My brother got here around 10:00 this morning, and we got the FJ sitting pretty in the driveway. Looks almost exactly like it did when I sold it! Odometer only shows an extra 1K, so my friend barely rode it the last 7 years or so. Going to need a battery, fork seals, carb cleaning, and some small fixes, but otherwise in great shape. It'll start and run with a jump, but not on all four and it won't idle, so the carbs definitely need going through. Here are a few pics, and with "little brother"  :yahoo:

That is such a clean looking 86'............

Just needed a minute alone, I hope my 86' does not find out.....

Thanks FJmonkey! I've had a huge crush on this bike since the first time I saw it. Up close, it needs a little attention to cosmetics, but it's been mechanically well cared-for for at least the last 25 years. I'm super itchin' to get on it and ride! I broke my toe at work this week, so riding is going to have to wait a little while longer :dash2:

Now I'm torn--keep working on my KZ tomorrow, or tear into the FJs carbs?

(Also, I'm loving learning the vernacular of the FJ community on this forum. I like that I have an "Ambulance")
