I like my Blue and gold 1989 California FJ1200, but would like to update some things.
Oil coolers, braided hydraulic lines, LED headlight, etc.
All new Yamaha's have a round tuning fork emblem.

I was considering putting an aftermarket round tuning fork emblem on the lower left and right side of the tank where my knee rests.

Has anyone done that and have photos to share?

Sorry Pat, decal post should have gone with this post.

Check with one of our members, Jeff0308. He's doing some dynamite work for me. I, too, have always liked the tuning fork logo. Again check with Jeff, he's one of our Aussie brothers.

I don't have the emblems on my bikes, I did remove the Hepco & Becker emblems and replaced them with the Yamaha tuning fork emblems.

cant help with decals on the tank, but i repainted the belly pan recently and it was going to be difficult to get the correct decals so instead i just put a 4" tuning fork on it and am happy with the look of it

When I repainted my 91 last year I also wanted to add the tuning fork logo.  I ordered a couple different sizes and held them in a bunch of different locations.  Didn't like them on the tank. Settled on the tail section.

These are the decals I chose.

Paint looks great. Like placement of decal as well. How about a little info...paint codes or colors...red looks brighter than oem. Did you paint or farm out. Also like the pained grab handles, real nice job.

Thanks for any info, Rick

Hey Rick.  Went to my local auto body supply for the paint.  Nason brand, made by Dupont.  I believe the white was a mitsubishi colour and the red was Guards red.  There was a white pearl coat over the white and for the red I mixed a little powdered silver pearl in the first coat of clear.  The lettering decals were purchased online, the striping decals were made at a local sign shop.  My goal was to replicate the colour scheme of my old 86, though the decals had to change due to the different fairing shape.  It was my second FJ paint job.  I converted an old travel trailer into a spray booth to do the job.    I think it turned out pretty well for an amateur painter.

There are more pictures in the paint job section of my gallery.

Hey Scott, its a trick. It's not an 86 it's a 91...  I wanted to do the same with my 90 but when I came across a NOS fairing the same ugly blue grey as mine I couldn't bring myself to repainting it.  Derek's bike is very tastefully done.

Yes Derek, if you are ever over Calgary way would love to get some painting lessons.  The red white really does look good on the 3xw.

Thanks guys.  All I did was release my FJ's inner ambulance.  All is right with the universe now.

Front end is from a YZF 600.

Derek,
Nice bike.  I guess when I get the decals I will just have to postition them around until I like what I see.

Fred & ken65 , I do like how you used the logos on the hard bags and on the repainted belly pan.
