Newbie from Tennessee

Well, newbie to this site, anyway. I've pretty much been a gear head my whole life.

Bought a '90 FJ last week after being out of the game for a few years (we had three kids in three years and it got to the point where I just never got to ride). This is my first FJ, but I've almost bought them several times over the years but other bikes just won out at the time. My last bike, which I rode for years was a BMW K100RS. I had narrowed the search down to a 92 FJ and the K-bike. Back and forth between the two dealers trying to decide, when my bike ('85 K100RS) popped up in the local paper with 4000 original miles on it. Bought it but always had a soft spot for the FJ. Well, now I've finally got one and I'm quite enthused about getting back into the saddle. I'm in Nashville, so if there are any other FJ folks in the area, I'd like to converse/meet. The bike I bought had been in storage for over a year and needs some TLC, but it's going to be fun bringing it back to where it needs to be. I've already had folks stop at my house asking what year it is. Glad to be here and looking forward to sharing info with other FJ owners.

I had a BMWK75 many moons ago.  It really suffered from just-off-idle fueling issues around town, but one long ride cleared that up.  Told me that the Beemer was a distance bike, and, in my case anyway, it did not do so very well with prolonged around town duty.  It was comparatively heavy and weak, but I loved that bike.  Sold it for the same money I paid for it, 3 years later, before I bought the FJ. 

The FJ, on the other hand seems to deal with many different duties very well.

Chiming in for the first time. Jeff from Connecticut, bought a clean '89 FJ 1200 two weeks ago. Always wanted one. Also purchased a basket case '95 YZF600R(rolling chassis) to swap suspension and wheels. Look forward to many miles and smiles.

Welcome to the group, the only stupid question is the one you failed to ask....Well not really.. but we love to tease and have fun...And help other FJ brothers (and Sisters) keep the KOOKALOO at maximum. Lots of good info in the old posts and in the heads of many members on this sight. They help me keep the old 86' running strong. So read all the posts and join in.

Well it is probably best you had the K first.  Because if it were the otherway around you would have had to sell the best bike you ever had.     Seriously, once you get all you ducks in a row with the FJ you will have endless miles of trouble free riding. 

Congratulation on the Family.  Man you are going to be knee deep in everthing as your children grow up ie. diapers, clothes, bikes, toys, cloths, Nintendo, gameboys, playstation, toys, schools supplies, cloths, boyfriends, girlfriends, cars, insurance, cloths.  Did I mention clothes?

I've owned a bunch of different bikes, the K wasn't the fastest or best handling, but it was the best bike I've ever owned. Absolutely bullet proof. One of the reasons I was looking at the K and the FJ were their reputations for dependability. I was tired of things being worn out after 30K. Over the years, I've seen a lot of FJ's with 70-80K on them and still running well. Outside of the BMW boxers, I don't know of any other air-cooled bikes that I can say that about.

Glad to be here, finally. Hope the FJ becomes my new "best bike".
