Appreciate any advice from anyone who lives or traveled through Wyoming the Land of Equal Rights...  Taking the Family camping there to visit Yellowstone, any restaurants or points of interest (like this: http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/2260) which are a must see or a must avoid?

Yellowstone, check out the lodge. Has a fireplace you can live in...
I personally enjoy Grand Teton park more than Yellowstone but both are great. Lots of traffic.....

A must see in my view is the Buffalo Bill museum in Cody, Wy. I also love the Irma Hotel in Cody, great food and ambiance.

What George said.

We stayed in Cody, WY one night and just loved that town!  Had some excellent meals and checked out the Cody Firearms Museum...just amazing!  We then hit Yellowstone via the East entrance...Beautiful!  We were driving out of Cody and were just in awe of the views...after about 30 miles of jaw dropping scenery, there was a road sign that said, "Begin Scenic Route."  We cracked up...Ohhh, that stuff back there wasn't scenic???  Check with the locals to make sure the road is open...it's a main entrance, but there are avalanche sections where they may only allow cars through at certain hours.  Hike to Yellowstone Falls if you can...It was my favorite memory from that trip.

The Grand Tetons on the way down to Jackson Hole are breathtaking and the town of Jackson Hole has a lot to offer as well.  I had a meal there that I still refer to from time to time.  Plenty of wildlife to see...Lots of buffalo and elk to be sure.  All good stuff!

If your going to be in Cody Wy. take a look at route 296 the Chief Joseph memorial highway its just north of Cody. We rode from Cody by way of Chief Joseph highway heading for rt.212 the Bear Tooth Pass. Both roads pass through some beautiful country and should not be missed if you in the area..

There is some amazing country out there I hope you enjoy it..

I've lived in Cheyenne for 20 years now.
It's a big state with lots to see, so let me ask before I give my two cents:
When are you coming to Wyo?
Where will you be coming from?
How long will you be here and what direction are you heading when you leave?

Hey Billy,
Thanks for your help!

When is end of June, I have a camper and it will be my wife and three boys 14, 16, and 18.
Coming from Minnesota, so probably I90 to Rapid City SD then Westward.
We're planning on driving straight through so most of our time is there.  First thought was Yellowstone, but that seems so, eh, 'touristy'.  Going to hit Grand Teton National Park for sure, Cody is on the list too.  Wouldn't rule out I80 on the way home.  Or I80 there and I90 back, I'm open.

Oooooh!  I am definitely riding that!  :good2:

I don't know when, but it will happen.

Well, if you are going through Rapid, you have to stop at the Black Hills unless you've been there, done that. Every American should see Mt Rushmore at least once in their lifetime. Skip Crazy Horse, you can see it well enough from the road and it's a ripoff that they'll never finish.
Devil's Tower is worth a visit, it's very cool, then slip over to Buffalo and then up to Sheridan, WY, both nice towns, cross the Big Horns and between Powell and Cody is the Heart Mountain Japanese Internment Camp Museum where the US Govn't forced 12,000 Japanese Americans to relocate during WW2. It's a very sobering place, and worth 2-3 hours before you go into Cody. It will blow you and your teenagers' minds that our government could do something like that to Americans, and it will amaze you at the ingenuity and pride the Japanese Americans had in their country.

The Yellowstone stuff is like the other guys have said.

On the way back if you want to avoid the 'touristy' part of Wyo, you could drop down and get on I-80 and go through Rock Springs, Rawlins, Laramie, and Cheyenne, but there's not a lot to see or do, unless you just want to see more of Wyoming. And if you hit I-80 on a windy day headed east, you'll get 60-70 mpg with your rig!
You could jump off 80 after Rawlins and head down to Saratoga, there's some hot springs there, then down to Encampment where there's an old mining museum, and then come across the Snowy Range on Hwy 130, there's some beautiful lakes and trails, and the greenbacks from Colo haven't found them yet.
You'll come out at Laramie and can get back on 80, stop in Cheyenne and see the capital.  There's not much going on here until Frontier Days, the World's Largest Outdoor Rodeo, but that's not until the end of July.

Then you could go back up to Rapid and home, or stay on 80 and go across Nebraska. (The best time to see Nebraska is at night.)
Either way, you're going to put a lot of miles on... Nothing like Capn Ron did though.  :sarcastic:

You might not have time to do all that, and it would be a LOT of driving. Wyo is a big state, and driving across it and South Dakota will make you realize how crowded and congested Minnesnowta is.

Oh, and if you happen to go through Shoshoni, there is an awesome malt shop you have to stop at. It's a total dive but, wow, the malts are amazing. Then go up thru the Wind River Canyon which is amazing, and stop at the hot springs in Thermopolis.
If you see you're going through Farson, there is another malt shop there you cannot skip.
And on your way through South Dakota, it's worth stopping at Murdo at the Pioneer Auto Museum and see the collection.  (They make great malts at the cafe attached to the museum too.)
