yepper if you run pods and a after market exhaust you will. or do they allow exhaust changes?
Here in vegas, its only a county law, not a state law, the county is ran as a corporation for profit so they come up with extra fun to generate revenue all over, if you live outside of clark county there is no smog of any kind.

I think he was talking about the cancer of nanny-government liberal socialism.

But really, CA isn't the worst - there is a county in Florida where kids aren't allowed to run in parks! (They might fall and scrape their knee.)

Robert Heinlein once wrote of a planet where the biggest annual holiday was "The Day We Hanged The Lawyers."

Too bad it was only fiction...

:hi:

I run an '84 in Az.   Are you in Maricopa county or out?   If out, then you are all clear.   I don't believe they'll look for your canisters even if in Maricopa.  They only look at the VIN to verify it matches the title.  They'll just have you idle and sample the exhausts.  If you fail idle, they'll ask you to hold it at 3k rpm and test again.    Every other year, I fail that test.   :D      I do a full carb clean and fresh plugs, all is well when I go back for a retest.

You'll want to pull your carbs and clean them up at the most elemental level possible.   If you can get a 'carb kit' from Dr Raforth (OldSlowGuy) you will have made the best investment in your FJ future.   (thread search for details on that)  Look for the cleaning/tuning document also.

Let me know if you need more info, it seems you have figured out the petcock.  I run the stock airbox with a UNI foam element.

Nope, no emissions test of any sort any more in AZ.... they changed that law a couple years ago  :yahoo:

Bikes have been subject to SMOG checks as far back as 86 when I first bought the newly offered (White with Red stripes) Honda CBR (Hurricane) 600. Nothing like sitting in AZ sun waiting in line till they can stick that probe up your tail pipe. Give me some more of that.....NOT!!!!! :negative:

Down here in Tucson we haven't had to smog test for a couple years now.... I thought the change in law affected Maricopa, as well....

Nope,  paid my $19 in May '09 and returned for a passing trip in June.    Maricopa is still testing this year anyway.  There have been talks of letting motorcycles get out of testing, but I don't see them letting go of the revenue stream too easily...

CCMXR, you should see if you can register your FJ at Rich's place...  get out of testing and very likely have lower insurance too!   :drinks:

You endlessly bleat on and on about your "Rights" as if they were a sacred shibboleth yet never mention your responsibilities.
Without taking on responsibilities, the naive belief in "Rights" has little current meaning or truth.

I did not mean to bleat on, I belong to certain groups, I support certain parties and I just believe in freedoms over a bureaucracy that doesn't trully represent the people. But if people vote for a certain system, then they always get what they deserve in the end.

I was making a comment about a not desirable place to live, not looking for a soap box.

I will keep my comments that are non fj related to myself

Please , don't feel that this is not a forum to express your views, your opinions are more than welcome.
Back to your post.
It's not about voting for one party or the other, it's about you.
Yes, you.
You fail to realise that if you want rights, you must accept the responsibilities that come with them.
You talk about freedoms.
What specific freedoms do you feel are being eroded?
You talk about "The People" being misrepresented without articulating just who these people may be.
Who are they?

To all, Freedom is not Free!

Klavady,

Here in America those who feel their freedoms are being eroded can mean just one person.  The reality is we give up many of our freedoms freely, yet we protect those that are our core beliefs to the end.  Many of us are misguided and confused, but when we remember that we are a Nation of Laws (and to the Republic for which it stands) then things become clearer.  Change is difficult for all humans, but change is inevitable.  Some of us are more willing to accept change and work with it, while other denounce change and work against it.  Either way, everything changes.  But there definitely needs to be a point where one can put one's self aside and try to understand the others point of view (empathy).  We seem to have little of that in the US, we are more apathetic towards other, until it happens to us of course.

And I agree, if you can't share your feelings with those that are closed to you then who can you share them with.  The problem is that these types of discussion always digress into name calling and one sided points of view, while no one is taking the time to listen to the other person.  This is one of the reason our legislation takes so much time to get any law worth doing past.  Everyone wants the credit for the ideas and no one want to take responsibility for the difficulties that the people may have with a certain law.  Bottom line, you can please all the people, and what is right can not always be painted with a wide brush stroke, but sometimes to get the right thing done you need to make the wide stroke and know you can't please everybody.

Peace and love.

Ya know, in my experience nothing is as simple as it looks. Here in PA the state fought the Feds over emission standards for years. (You can debate the wisdom of that) When the Feds threatened the highway money, the state came up with a law. All vehicles are to be tested during the safety inspection using a plug in engine analyzer for an additional charge of about thirty dollars. This piece of equipment can only be used on vehicles back to 1996. So what about my 1994 pick up? 'Ole Mervin gets to throw up the hood (bonnet) and say "yep, looks like everthings there. That'll be thirty bucks." Which he was supposed to do during the safety inspection anyway. I think no matter how good or valid an idea is in the end its more about the money and I would rather keep mine.
