OK this is a bike story but not mine. I can't tell it like Ray but here goes. Ray is a coworker of mine  and a young man. He owns one of those big green Kawasaki crotch rockets with three or four letters and numbers on the side. He is poud to ride with a large group you have all seen that give motocycling a bad name. Racing down the freeway 150+mph and wheelies for miles. After a long afternoon of terrorizing drivers the group retires to a drinking establishment not far from my house just off the freeway. Ray is the first one to leave. Outside he notices two patrol cars in the parking lot across the street. Concerned for his buddies he returns inside and informs them it is time to go but 5 minutes after him. Ray stumbles outside and jumps on the first green Kawasaki. Naturally it does not start--its not his. Proceeds to the second with the same result. Gets on his and with the patrol cars in pursuit goes the opposit way his friends will leave. After the police stop Ray and determine he is stone cold sober they are highly irate and inform him they will still get his friends. Ray nods in the direction of the freeway and tells them they better hurry because there they go down the freeway now! But thats not the end of the story. A few months ago I don"t see Ray for a week. Monday he returns covered in road rash. Yup....fell off your motorcycle did'nt you. One week later he's buying another green Kawaski. Some guys never learn.......Dave

Holy crap, they got HOW MANY coppers questioning ONE GUY?

Ain't moral panics wonderful?

It's no longer "Innocent until proven guilty".  Now it's "Guilty" until you are able to prove your own innocence.

Wonder how many of us will get pulled over for being in full gear and possibly in a group of three or more..

Wow....This is what you end up with if the prevailing mentality relies on the government to solve all problems and keep the people "safe.". Fortunately we reset the clock to zero in 1776 here in the U.S., but don't kid yourselves... We're heading to the same inevitable "safety before personal freedom" place.  Truly sad...

I seem to recall talking to a Tennessee State Park policeman at the last Boone rally I attended.

Thankfully, TN is one of the few states that doesn't share data.

I seem to recall that they'd like to speak to the rider of a yellow bike...    :unknown:

I used to ride my first Yamaha from San Diego to Los Angeles every week to see my old girlfriend.  My trip back to San Diego was usually at around two o'clock in the morning and it was cold.  I got in the habit of laying my chest on the tank, peering through the tiny windscreen and going 100+MPH down the I-5 to make the suffering as short as possible.  I needed a stretch, so I sat up and with my first glance in my rear-view mirrors in quite a while, saw a blur of cops a half-mile behind me...

I pulled over on the side of the road, took off my helmet and waited for them.  The first cop out his car came up to me and said, "THANK YOU for pulling over!!"  I said, "I have a CHOICE?"  He said, "Most bikes don't...and we can't catch them."  Wow.  I explained to him about the cold and the long ride to San Diego at 2am and he let me go with the standard, "Okay...but slow it down a little..."  Nice.

Couple years ago while doing my regular commute home from work on my Yamaha TDM... "Why the heck is traffic so slow today?..."  I start weaving through traffic and I see the reason traffic is slow sitting on the side of the road on the shoulder.  oh oh, maybe he didn't see me - ya right.  Didn't take long and he's behind me so I pull over, get off and remove helmet (so he can see my grey hair :))  He's like "I know it's hot out so that's why you were going so fast (62mph in a 55 zone - I'm glad he only saw me at 62), but you should keep it down".  He ran my license - all clear and let me go with that warning... first and only time I've been pulled over on a bike :)

Yeah, but the cop who pulled me over started asking about a yellow bike, after starting off by saying 'I know you weren't going very fast'...   :pardon:

Yeah, I've never heard that one before...

Everyone knows I'm (almost) painfully slow.   :sorry:

I knew there were LEOs in the area (there was, um... a questionable maneuver a couple of miles back), and saw him coming thru traffic behind me (white slicktop CVPI).  I just pulled over in the end of a driveway, and he drove up alongside me, rolled the window down and started talking to me like we were old buddies.  He asked me about the yellow bike, and I told him 'Hell, I'm from Indiana, I don't know anyone down here'.  About that time, Jack and Jeff went by, and he asked if I knew them, and I said 'One of those was from Pennsylvania, and the other from Florida... I don't know 'em'.  He said he going to find the yellow bike, and took off.

Like FJ Flyer said, it was really a yellow 'STITCH he was looking for.      IIRC, it was sitting right around the corner (and over the state line).

Meanwhile, he took one for the team:

Thanks to Andy, I now have to share the EC rally record for getting pulled over.  Twice in one day, though Andy got his in about five minutes' time.

Leaving Petaluma city limits, just rolling on in top quite leisurely like. Pass a squad car on the side of the road that instantaneously springs magically into life. I pull over, taken off my lid and wait patiently, staring to the middle distance collecting my thoughts. "So what speed do you think you were going", started the copper, obviously stating line one of the training manuel. " Er.. probably about 60" I say. "Do you know what the limit is on this stretch of road". "well, I would hope it's 55, officer". "I got you going 68 in a 45". "oh"
That's that then I thought, fair cop. "License". "What, now?". "Yes, now". "It's at home, officer."
"Registration". "What now?"."yes now". "It's at home with my license, you know in my valuables box."
"Insurance?". "In the box with the license and registration"
The bewildered officer now looks to the middle distance, contemplating his next move.
"Ok, slow down, off you go."
Confused and somewhat relieved no ticket, I headed home. Excitedly told the wife, hey I just got away with 68 in a 45, I thought it was a fine for sure. Then mentioned the confusing pregnant pauses when asked for documentation. In the UK, you'd get a 7 day producer, which means you go to the cop shop with the requested docs within 7 days of being pulled or they'd be bother. "You dumbass" wife replies. "you're lucky you didn't get arrested and your Fj impounded. You gotta get in the habit of carrying that shit with you."
And so goes cultural differences number 58.

Wow! Ya learn something everyday! (Especially thanks to civil opinion on this forum).

I am truly surprised to discover that you have motorcycle only checkpoints, let alone the fact there`s legislated federal funding for it....I hope it`s not what we end up with as a watered down strategy as we approach next QLD election....I can`t see how that would achieve anything for either side of the freedom verses safe families, grey line.

Unfortunateley the links here between Obama, Snowden and Campbell-Newman (Qld) are philisophically and practically real. (Either way democracy is the loser as highlighted 2 centuries ago by Karl Marx)

Does a warfare veteran deserve his freedom rights?...Absoluteley.   Ummmm....  What if he hasn`t been de commisioned successfully? Who`s at fault for that?   How do we repatriate his tribal training and his search for a confy tribe? What if (Durrh!) that tribe for some strange reason has a collective thinking for distrust of Government or society conventions or inevetibly, their laws?

I reckon the chicken is coming second, when that place belongs to the egg!.....and and And, I prefer white or yellow lines!...The gray ones require too long a dialectical approach me thinks.

Sorry if I`ve just cross threaded, again   ....but I`m inta me third beer in prep for Australia Day (Tomorra)...Happy Australia day, Australia!
