BTDT.  Kinda reminds me of Little Sycamore Cyn, out past 23, aka the "goat trail" but with more oak trees.  Lots of slow flat corners as I remember.

I've always liked those Interceptors!  Thanks for the road tip (seriously)...that's how I've found some of the best rides!  ...And you did seem to have a familiarity that I didn't expect from someone from Kansas.  NOW where are you finding your twisty roads?

I know there are some short sections of almost twisty roads in the Flint hills. :rofl2: Yea right, twisty's in Kansas.  :wacko3:

For the real twisty roads near by, I have to head over to the Southwest part of Missouri and Northwest part of Arkansas. About a 300 mile trip just to get to the fun stuff.

It is confirmed I will be there this year it will be for Friday and Saturday and leaving on Sunday I have to work Friday so it will be late.  :yahoo:

Well...... I have been waiting patiently at work hoping that the stars would align and I would be able to make the WCR. No dice.

I found out last week that we are opening the 2014 Season with War and Cheech & Chong on May 30th.....

Unfortunately, that means I am grounded for the weekend :negative:   But I want to offer up access to the show for any FJ Owner that wants to make the trip.  It is not exactly close to the campground in Willits and the date does not work particularly well with other planed events at the rally but I wanted to make the offer none the less. The venue is located in Paso Robles, CA about 5 hours south of the rally. 

It dawned on me the Central Coast has been considered for the WCR a few times and that the rally dates coincide with the seasonal opening of the amphitheatre in late May or early June. So, with a little planning we could line up the rally with a show or two....   

I want to go on record now with a vote to host the 2015 WCR in San Luis Obispo County.   I have been riding here since 1988 and I can tell you that the area is full of excellent roads including Government Roads G16 (as mentioned) and G18 as well as Highway 1 through Big Sur.

I am disappointed about missing the WCR this year as I was really looking forward to the ride and catching up with old friends...

I can vouch for the excellence of Tim's hospitality and the general coolness of the ampi-theather over which he is all powerful. Craig Z and I dropped in to join Tim and Lynard Skynard shake the building loose. Like, Tim's up on the stage and rubbing shoulders with the dudes - it's all so rock and roll.

Hello hello,

         So I need some guidance from the almighty Kookaloo Gods. Turns out that the XJ Rally I was supposed to attend in early June may be cancelled due to lack of attendies. I want to attend your guys' rally! But I'm a.... whimp. You're trip is twice as far but defnitely doable (Phoenix Az here). I'm just afraid of doing it alone/getting lost/breakdown. Now I am doing everything in my power to get this FJ in tip top shape before then. Besides tires, chain, sprocket, oil, and the greasing/lubrication of miscellanious parts, is there anything I'm missing? I would also like to know if anyone is willing to make the trip up there with me? Maybe meet in LA or something and i'm completely OK with taking the route you wish. I'm totally fine with camping, because I feel like I'm too late for cabin reservations, but again, I just don't want to do it alone lol. I'm inexperienced with these things, as i've never been more than 100 miles on a bike before. The long ride won't bother me (I can and have ridden all day), just the fear of the unkown will.

Yes, your instincts are spot on....good call, don't go alone with a unfamiliar bike.

Hop on I-10 headed west...after a easy 4 hour ride, stop in Palm Desert. Stay overnight at my house and we will leave the following morning for Willits. I plan on going up 395 thru Bishop, Mammoth Lakes, Mono Lake, Topaz, and over the Sierras via Moniter Pass.

I have done Willits nonstop from Palm Desert several times and it makes for a long day so I think I'll make it a two day trip this year....I'm not in a hurry.
I'll PM you my address and cell #...

Meantime, put some miles on your bike.....long miles...a lot of miles....get all the bugs out. Know how far you can travel on your tank. *Bring a heated vest for the high country,* rain gear, and a 2 liter Camelback.
On your bike: 1) valves checked? 2) carbs synced? 3) fresh plugs? 4) fresh fuel filter? 5) carbs tight, no drips or leaks? 6) engine oil tight, no leaks? 7) fresh battery? 8) fresh rubber? 9) good chain? 10) fresh fluid in all the hydraulics?
No worries, rest assured that if anything does come up with your bike, I carry a full tool set and I have been known to work by the side of the road. It 'ain't fun, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Traveling is always better with a buddy who can run and get any parts you need.

Oh yea, don't forget your sleeping bag like Ed did on his first WCR.... We will have room for you in a cabin.

If I were you I'd jump at the chance to ride to a Rally with this man. I know for a fact, he would never lead you astray and you'd have a great time.   :good2::good2:

Hot damn you guys are awesome.  :dance2: The amount of friendliness on this site astounds me. Lol I have done all of the maintenance you listed in the past month. I just need my brakes adjusted/new ones, they're a bit whimpy. I did the things you guys suggested when I bought the bike too. Lithium battery, RPM oil cooler, and RPM foam pod filters, bike hasn't overheated since I bought it! It's just... old. Makes noises lol. Don't take this as my RSVP yet, I will let you know as soon as I can!
