The clutch slave just wasn't holding pressure, so I couldn't test drive it. (In theory the transmission could be bad, but other than that, it sounded great.)

Kyle,

If the slave cylinder is toast, I have a spare clutch slave that did not leak when I removed it from my 89. Yours for the cost of shipping.

Not everyone understands what a completely rational process this maintenance of a motorcycle is. They think it's some kind of a knack or some kind of affinity for machines in operation. They are right, but the knack is almost purely a process of reason.

Realized I totally forgot to add:

I want to steal the gauges offf of the new bike. Those gauges are much better than mine. Mine have a sketchy speedo and basically worthless gas gauge, and no tach. His still look pristine (he didn't get a chance to ruin them during his tenure of ownership...). So, another reason I was considering just selling the bike naked, getting to put some little digital cluster on there.

If you come out with a good set of gauges, that's your moneys worth right there.
On another note, I've often been tempted to buy that seemingly amazing craigslist deal of two bikes and make one good one of them. Usually though you find out that the same bits on both bikes are broken and you end up with a whole load of repeat bits that are no use nor ornament.
A bike on the road is worth two in the garage.

My 2 cents of advice on buying a 2nd FJ. Buy it from a forum member. Typically they will be well taken care of, and most issues will be known.
