Delkevic Collector Box?

My old collector box finally rusted through the two middle down pipes basically fell away. I ordered a Delkevic stainless collector box this week and it arrived today. Spent this evening fitting it and got the downpipes and collector fitted....

All looked good until i tried to fit the silencers and found the angle to be way off if I fit the original silencers they would be about 5-10 degrees lower than the mounting brackets.

I've looked on the delkavic website and studied the pics and it looks like they've forgotten to bend the outlets before welding them on as on the website it clearly shows a bend then a weld.

Mine don't appear to have the bend, has any one else had any problems with a delkavic collector box?

I won't know for sure if the bend is missing till tomorrow as it's to dark to see now.

I put one on my 92 with no problems.  It did take some patience as I recall.  Loosen everything off and put the headers in first...then mufflers...then tighten up back mount...as I recall.  Keep trying.

hi jeff thanks for the reply, did you use original headers?

i've tried with my renegade race cans and they were an even worse fit(but fit fine with oe box) so i tried the original silencers just to check and no go with them either.

have to have another go tomorrow. i was just wondering whether they are designed to work with delk header pipes which might be slightly longer so angle the whole thing up more at the back? perhaps if i loosen off the header bolts on the box and slide them out a bit it'll kick the back up.

tempted to take it off and lay it next to original and see if i am right about the angles.

And you have to remove that side heat chromed shields in order to fit the cowl

i don't think there's a hope in hell of this collector fitting an fj properly

angle on an fj and xjr is completely different.

What  year is yours?

From the pic the initial angle at the box looks, pretty similar

It does! I have an XJR collector box on my '92 3XW. I've also got the XJR silencers fitted, but the FJ ones fit as well.
If you search there is a photo of my bike posted.

got it fitted but i don't like it, angles completely wrong and puts a lot of strain on the brackets, had to use a lot of force to get silencers up high enough to fit the brackets.

have emailed delkavic ebay to see what they say

guess options will be.. try another box perhaps i got a duff one.. get this one cut and re-welded at the correct angle.

my standard rusty old box lined up perfectly cans would slide off and on no problem.

difficult to tell holding it next to one on bike what angles are like would need to take it off at some point and hold them next to each other, not doing that now had enough.

don't care what any one says the angles in those pics are different fj is much more acutely angled than the xjr i think they were trying to get away with a one size fits all bodge. the xjr outlet looks like it's nearly flat compared to the fj outlet.

All I can say is mine is a 3Xw with stock headers and mufflers and it fits fine.  Had to take one of the heat shields off.

If it doesn't look like the one pictured then yes they either manufactured it wrong or it's for the wrong application.  I'd take a picture of your original one next to theirs showing the difference and send them an e-mail.

Hi.

I also bought the Delekevic collector, but I sold again for half the price without using it. Two of the inlets were pointing towards the center so it was impossible to fit the downpipes  :negative:

The original Yamaha collectors for the FJ and XJR are nearly identical, only difference is that the outlets are pointing a few degrees upwards compared with the FJ's. On my FxJr I am using the XJR collector and mufflers without problems.

Best regards

Benny

interestingly yours also looks like it's one of the other versions shown on their website the one with the side bits welded on and not just screws
