I have had my '85 FJ1100 posted on here for sale for a few weeks now.  It looks like a guy from south Florida is driving up today to buy it.  He is getting a killer good deal on an all-original bike from the original owner...me.  I just went for my last ride on my bike.  Weather was nice.  No helmet and wind in my face.  Life was good.  Bike was running strong and I have always loved the sound from those factory pipes.  A deep growl at low rpm building into a terrifying scream at high rpms.  It just all sounds so right.  And the FJ is one of the best looking bikes ever made.  I have owned this bike for 28 years now.  I have owned some kind of motorcycle for the last 42 years.  Before the FJ, it was a Kawasaki 900 Z-1.  And before that, a dirt bike.  This will be the first time in 42 years I have not had a motorcycle.  While I am happy that someone wants my bike, this is a bitter joy.  I will miss it greatly.     :cray:

Guess I can relate. Went without a bike for 10 years. Horrible experience..... Then one day I bought an FJ on a lark and all was well again. The smile came back.... The good news it will be going to a nice home if it's the one I am thinking about.  :hi:  :good2:

Life isn't about having the best, but about making the best of what you have...

DON'T DO IT!!! :bomb:

Living without a bike is not living at all! :hang1:

On two occasions I went about 10 years without a bike. Never again I hope. There is just nothing else out there that can clear my mind, sharpen my focus & make me feel alive.

Well it is done.  It feels a bit like losing a family member after all these year.  I very nice father and son bought it.  They were impressed at the condition of the bike and all the original factory paperwork, literature and bill of sale that I had.  The father seemed very knowledgeable and he was buying it for his boy.  Lucky boy!!  The father is going to fix the carburetor hesitation which we think is leaking throttle shaft seals.  I think it went to a good home.

So I still have a few extra parts that did not go with the deal so I will post them in the parts section here soon.  Complete set of new factory pistons, rings and pins, 1st oversize.  Also a valve adjustment tool (the factory lock that holds down the cam followers while you change the shims) plus a bunch of valve shims.  Be watching for those if you need either of those.

Rocko,

You know, "You don't get too old to ride, you get old because you stop riding."

And, when you feel the need you can purchase another bike that will fill the gap.
It doesn't have to be an FJ, any bike will keep you young.

I can already hear it:

"I should have NEVER sold my FJ..."

I second that, you can always pick up another bike.  Whenever I have sold a motorcycle, in particular an FJ, I have felt a little sad, but I always know there will be another one for me down the line.
The quality of thought is only as good as the quality of language used.
