Some people try meditation, I think I'll go polish pipes.
(The collector box looks like a suicide mission, though.  :flag_of_truce:)

Just my opinion, but if you have the lower fairing, it probably wouldn't be worth the effort.  However, if you don't have the lower, it would look damn nice.  :good:

The oem collector box is steel, although I see some very nice aftermarket stainless steel collector boxes available.
On my steel box, I just stripped off the paint and wire brushed it (cordless drill) and sent it off to Swain Tech for their White Lightning thermal coating. Cost was around $60 as I recall.
No more heat melting on the rear ends of my chin fairing. Very durable, no chipping or flaking.

Swain Tech Coatings is the cat's meow of thermal coatings.

Yes indeed, polishing is much cheaper than the cost of a prescription for Xanax, even with Obama Care. :bomb:

Thanks for the info on the collector box. I looked at the S.S. units... They are nice for sure, I have read they are a bit noisy or "tinny" sounding. Probably lighter than the stock unit. My collector box weighs right at 7 Lbs. I will give some thought to the coating. I have to "triage" where my money go's on the bike. Its an evolution. Just doing the best with what I have. I wired off the coating on the exhaust nuts today and they are next.  :good2:

George, from what I can see, you are at least as good, if not better than, Pat or myself when it comes to the polish. You do excellent work. Don't kid yourself!

If you are referring to the old test bars that were on there, no problem. They and all associated stuff are in the land fill somewhere  :good2:. All is converted back to stock.
For me, I am convinced the stock factory riding position is close to about optimum. I will do the 3/4 " bar raise. I wasn't impressed with the "high upright and back" riding position. It makes the windscreen useless and at higher speeds around 110 + the whole thing is detrimental. Wind forces on my chest and head become a limiting factor and the air it driven up into the helmet was literally a drag. There is no perfect windscreen. Almost like the perfect seat.
There are good and not so good ones but nothing is perfect for everyone. For me I will stay close to the stock rider configuration.
Still looking at windscreens but I am leaning strongly to the Zero Gravity touring screen.  :good2:
