Hello all.. What a great site and source of information.

I've owned my completely standard 1989 3CV for over 17 years but, it has stood idle for the last 11 of those. This was due to the bike, along with an RD250F and RXS100, being laid up (and I'll hold my hands up...neglected) because of a major house extension.

Having the last few months recommissioning the RD250, I've just begun work on the FJ.. the carbs are removed and I've started stripping and cleaning. So far going well (although the pan head screws on the carb tops put up a good fight! They eventually succumbed to careful use of a hammer and punch!!). The first float needle seat I've tried removing is also refusing to budge so far.. hopefully the soaking in WD40 I've given it will do the trick.

I finally have a carb cleaner (aerosol) that actually works superbly (Innotec Carb Cleaner)... Ive previously tried many different brands available here but until now they've all been totally ineffective... this stuff dissolves varnish/gum deposits completely.

I very much look forward to chatting, sharing info/advice, etc with you.

Paul

Welcome. Glad to here you are working on the FJ. There is a kit of screws so you can replace those JIS screws with SS allen heads. Where in England are you located ? Always nice to know. Lot of help here and a good Files section. Don't hesitate to ask questions or post pictures when you can.  :good2: :good2:

Welcome to the digital campfire where FJowners tell lies, BS, and remember how fast we use to be. I can't stop improving my 86', and to think I could have just got hooked on Crack and saved a boat load of money.  :shok:
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

I'm not the fastest FJ rider, I am 'half-fast', the fastest slow guy....

Many thanks for welcome gents. George, I'll certainly be fitting SS allen heads as you suggest... I originate from Newcastle in the NE, but now live in Peterborough (East Midlands) which is around 80 miles to the North of London.
