FJ had 127,000 miles on the odometer and I was getting a lot of blow by from the worn piston rings, a standard occurance with high mileage engines. When I put the crank case filter on the short oem hose (5" long) I was getting a lot of oil in the filter from the blow by.
What solved the problem was removing the short hose and installing a longer 12" hose. The best I can figure was that the longer hose allowed the hot oil mist to cool, condense, and drain back, before reaching the filter.

Helps if you can fill the hose with steel wool or the like, gives the mist more surface area to condense onto.

Suggest using some of a stainless steel scrubbing pad - the steel wool can rust and break down over time -- don't really want that to find its way into the engine case and oil supply!

I think it was Steve Conklin that got dressed down by his engine builder (Hank Scott) for not routing the breather to the back of the bike so this fumes wouldn't get sucked into "his" engine (aka Thor).

Yep definatley. I used the stainless steel pot scrubber in the catch can I installed in our 4X4, works a treat. Although getting that into a 1/2" rubber tube would be a bit difficult. I'm going to extend the line and just put the filter on the end,  :drinks:
