Terry in Australia

G'Day Guys, I'm (almost) a new 1987 FJ1200 owner. Almost because the PO is still the owner until Monday, and I can't wait to take it for a ride. I'm an FJ newb, but not a motorcycle newb, I also own a Triumph Rocket III Classic, Honda GL1200 Interstate, BMW K100RS SE, and several Honda CB750's. I've owned and ridden bikes continuously since the late 1960's, and do all my own mechanical work, painting, welding, lathe/mill work etc.

I like most bikes (including Harleys, I've got one on my shopping list at the moment) but I especially like big bikes. I've done 36 years in the Australian Army (24 in the Regular Army and 12 in the Reserve) and I work as a Defence Contractor. I'm looking forwards to learning all about Yamaha's mighty FJ series from the collective genius here. Thanks Ken, for making me aware of this site. Cheers, Terry.  :good2:

Welcome ! You will fit right in here. Lots of fellow FJ riders in OZ. Also a ton of help and advice. Don't hesitate to jump in and ask questions it is cheaper and easier than finding out on your own  ..

Cheers George

Welcome Terry, at least you picked the right colors. Plenty of upgrades you can do to make your 87' the best bike you will ever own. Make sure you attend a rally and meet some of us misfits in person, the lies and BS around the campfire make for really good times.

:hi: Welcome Terry.  Mate, burn that shopping list - you`ve found your long distance home. This place is sorta like a cloud based campfire for Torque junkies. Your bike collection (so far) is truly symptomatic . (Always wanted a Rocket up me a...!)

Hey thanks Guys, only one more sleep to go before I become an FJ owner, and I can't wait. I'm really interested in practical upgrades, I can't leave things alone, my Rocket only had around 600 miles on the odo when I installed a Jardine exhaust, Power Commander III and K&N filter, then had it dyno'd at Melbourne Triumph, it punches out 141 BHP, and (more importantly) 147 foot pounds of torque, at the rear wheel. I'm yet to be beaten off the lights by anything on wheels....... If my FJ has anything like that accelleration, (or can be made to) I'll be a happy camper! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Yeppers, you will not be disappointed, indeed.

Terry, with your knowledge and your experience, I suspect you will help us, as much as we will help you.

Cheers mate!  Pat

Gidday terry. I to live on Melbourne.  South eastern suburbs. There's a few here from Melbourne  (  ribbert- Noel) and (Arnie). I own an 88 Black and gold FJ. My third one. Mines pretty much stock except exhausts. Suits me for now. Hope your FJ lives up to your expectations. Great bike, plenty of power. Jeff

Hi again terry, welcome here as well.

Thanks guys, I'm enjoying poking and prodding my FJ, and am working on getting it into a roadworthy condition. I've ordered new front and rear discs and pads, a seat cover, Randy's handlebar risers, spin on oil filter adapter and K&N chrome filter, new footpeg rubbers, etc.

An original owners manual arrived today, I can never understand why people keep their owners manuals when they sell their bikes? It took me awhile to work out how to lift the seat without it........

I've also bought a 17 inch rear wheel for it, I went outside the box and bought a 2010 FZ6N rear, the donor bike did very few miles and the wheel and tyre look like new, and I don't think fitting it will be too difficult. Finding a matching front wheel might be difficult, but no biggie, it's an ongoing project. Cheers, Terry.  :good2:

sounds like you have it under control terry,   took me ages to figure out the seat myself, ended up having to google it,
