This may have been asked before, and I'm not looking for one, but I'm curious to know if the original FJ1200 motor is still being produced today or are all the Legend Cars and all the FJ's out there running 20+ year old motors  ??

FJmonkey

I believe only the 1250 motors are produced new for the legends cars.

Nope, the only engine you can buy is the XJR1300 with the longer trans shaft, clutch cover & shift lever.

What is the CC of the XJR engine?

Wishful thinking , but would it bolt up to an FJ frame?

Yes, but you'll have to fit a 190 or 200 rear tire to take advantage of the longer trans shaft.   :rofl2:  Seriously I'm not sure...

Or, I'll bet Randy could swap parts so it would work with a normal width rear tire....

Going by memory, Frank Moore used a new crate motor in his '86/87 and it fit just fine.
He had it sleeved for the 82mm pistons giving him 1349cc of displacement, and thus Brutus was born.
The only alteration needed was on the top right corner of the countershaft sprocket cover. This was needed to be able to remove and reinstall the cover so that the cover cleared the FJ's frame.

Bear in mind that Frank also has the FZ1 (IIRC) swingarm/wheel assembly, as well.

Yes, it will bolt in with the exclusion of the drive side issues, longer trans shaft for wider tire/wheel of the XJR1300 by 8mm. This means the trans output shaft, shift shaft, clutch slave pushrod and chain guard are all 8mm wider.

As Pat mentioned, the cover would have to be trimmed at the top and bottom to fit the frame of the FJ. It is not too hard and several members here have done while adding offset sprockets to allow for the wider tire/wheel combinations.

As far as cost, the only source for the XJR1250 in the US is Legends cars or one of their dealers. I am not sure of the actual cost of the engine but it is over $5000.00 I believe and it does not include the chain guard cover so that would be an extra expense.

Hello.

Fitting the XJR engine to any FJ is no big deal. As already mentioned you will have to find a solution for the 8mm issue of the driveshaft.

And these minor changes:

Change the neutral switch assembly with the part from your FJ
Change the Oil level gauge assembly with the part from your FJ
Change the Pickup Coil-Governor with the part from your FJ
Mill some mm of backend/uppperside of the sprocket crankcase cover (otherwise it won't fit in the frame)
Mill 4-5mm of the back end of the cylinderhead (otherwise it won't fit in the frame)
If the XJR engine is +2004 you will have to close the holes of the air induction system in the cylinder head
If your FJ is a 1984-1990 model you will have to mill up the hole for the engine mount under the sprocket

I bought my FJ in 2003 and fitted the first XJR engine with 8.000km in 2005, now it has clocked 150.000Km and oil consumption is still no issue. I think the engine is fit for the next 100.000Km without problems.

Anyway, this winter I will change the engine to the one I have lying in my cellar with only 5.000Km on the clock :i_am_so_happy:

Here is some photo's of the evolution of my FxJr 1250  :bye: http://privat.5xb.dk/#!album-35

Benny, that looks beautiful.  Nice work to say the least and inspiration for anyone.  The chromed ? or polished pipes look great with that motor.

Btw, what swing arm did you use?
