Rentec engine guard inspiration please!

My 93's PO fitted rentec engine guards....good

When I bought them they had a few dinks and scuffs....bad

So I removed them and cleaned them up gave em a respect etc....good

Prior to re installing I noticed under the point where the guard 'rests' on the frame behind the chin guard the PO wrapped some insulation tape around the bikes frame (I assume to stop any rubbing)....bad

Now This has resulted in a whole load of corrosion under the tape and going behind the paint back to the frame, I have cleaned all this up, re sprayed the frame and am ready to re install the guards....good

BUT I'm looking for some inspiration I don't want to re install with out anything insitu if it is going to vibrate or run and damage the frame, but also don't want to put insulation tape as damp will get behind again and eventually start corroding again.

Thought about lining the 'c' shaped mount on the guard with something but not sure what. Anyone got any ideas, preferably something that won't hold moisture!

Thanks

Push bike tube? Not sure what you mean?

Be interested to here Randy's thoughts, not sure if he gives out any particular advice in relation to installation?

Cut up a bicycle inner tube for a gasket between the frame and engine guard.

I concur with the other posts.

Cut up bicycle tire glued onto the frame with 3M Scotch-Weld 1300L or Goop General Purpose adhesive. The rubber cement/adhesive will form a water tight barrier at the frame and the rubber will dampen vibration.
