Couple of mods to the Blackbird

Finally made time to work on the Blackbird.

Installed a PCIII Power Commander, removed the PAIR system, add a higher pressure fuel regulator, installed some iridium plugs, you know, fun stuff.

It was too late to ride it hard.

I'm old enough to have trouble seeing at night, and the Blackbird does not suffer fools, and I would of been a fool to try and ride it that late and as tired as I was.

Will you spend time on a dyno? I have found the maps that come with the PC are a bit conservative.  I have the Yoshimura EMS (made by PC for Yoshimura) on the Gixxer, and spent time on the dyno to good effect.  The fueling is near perfect at each and every point for the throttle, at each rpm.  I am really pleased with it.  The maps that came with the EMS, for the full Ti pipe that I have, were imperfect -especially at the lower end rpms/ small-medium throttle openings.  I was able to wring out 2 more HP's on the top as well.  Even after I spent time on the dyno, I tweaked it myself with my own laptop, mostly to get idle and launch settings to my liking.   

Does the PCIII have fuel and ignition, or just ignition?  Nice piece of kit -sure beats messing with jets and compromising on ignition timing.

The PCIII USB only does fuel. Good idea to dump the PAIR valve....it has a big effect on idle.

I always wanted a Blackbird.....................I was a half hour late for one on craigslist when I lived in Phoenix.
I had the cash, I wanted the bike, the price was right.................I didn't make it in time.........
I already had the FJ at the time, so I wasn't too bummed........

I'm not that familiar with the system you removed, and blocked off...................but keep in mind that if there is any fuel/air mixture behind those block-off plates, you might run into problems with using RTV to seal them..............Gasoline will dissolve RTV.......something to keep an eye on.

Nice work. I like the quick disconnect fuel line.

Always liked the BB.  However, I sat on one and it was quite a reach to the bars.  Also I recall the forks had no adjustments?

And, it was going out of production when I was looking.  I already own a bike that's discontinued, I don't need another (especially one that Randy doesn't support!)

GenMar risers helped some.

VFR800 bars fit and are even closer/higher, but I prefer the finish of the XX's units.

Oil, yes...........................gasoline, NO. It will dissolve

There are sealants that are fuel resistant, and they are labeled as such............(Permatex #1 and #2, as well as others), but RTV silicones are not fuel resistant.
