How to disable engine non start when not in neutral

I did the switch mod today. Now instead of the bike not recognizing the clutch being pulled in, it thinks the clutch is always pulled in. So the starter motor can be activated at any time. If I unplug the switch the bike is back to not allowing itself to start unless it's in neutral.

This is the first bike I ever had with this failsafe so I'm fine if the starter can be engaged at any time. But if there is a way I can make it work right I'd love to know.

Thanks again!

Oh yea, PS, it didn't get stolen last night! But I've got it back over at my friend's place for the week anyway. Yea, the ninja would have been a better test bike for this, but the Ninja is in New Jersey at a different friend's place.

If you bypassed the safety feature then be very careful when you start it. 500+ pounds can lurch forward and leave the bike 6+ feet in front of you... Sideways...
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Or if you try and catch it , you'll be knocked on your arse with the bike trying to cuddle you
unless you ride bikes, I mean really ride bikes, then you just won't get it

Huh...  If you modified the switch and it made the behavior change, I'd suggest the circuit is working fine and you've got the switch mod wrong somehow.  Use an ohm meter or other method to verify the switch changes state when you cycle it.

David,
was the switch that you were trying to modify, a 3-pin switch?

The FJ has a 2-pin switch...............in order to make it work with the 3-pin switch, you can't just remove the one pin.
You have to remove the middle pin, then bend/shorten the third(longest) pin, and cut (melt with a hot knife) a new channel to move the third pin to the spot previously held by the middle pin that you removed.
One of the circuits in the 3-pin switch is always on, and is switched off by the clutch handle.
The other is always off, and is switched on by the clutch handle.................but unfortunately this correct circuit for the FJ doesn't put the pins next to each other, hence the need to modify it to work with the FJ.

This is what you need to end up with.........

Clean the contacts with an eraser, or a piece of fine sandpaper while you're in there...........
