CBR mirrors...

Anyone wanting to upgrade to CBR mirrors, I put the info on them here a while ago.

You can buy emgo or other knock-offs for $20/pair, but you'll have vibration issues, and then probably experiment with injecting silicone to help that... Only, then, you'll maybe break one and have to buy another pair.

So now you're at $40, and you have to get it right this time--or maybe you're afraid to try again?

For only ten dollars more, you could have gotten these used, OEM mirrors that won't vibrate, won't have a shorter than stock stalk length, and will last over time: Left, Right.

I have decided to experiment with a pair of GSXR 600/750 mirrors, as per the single citation on the page I referred to at the top of this post, since I found a pair of OEM mirrors (albeit with some rash on the back) for $20 ($17.50 after an ebay coupon I had). But I had already found the CBR mirrors, and thought I'd pass the info on to another worthy soul here.

All the best,

Kyle

Kyle, I have a $20 pair of CBR mirrors from Zilliion8 (the name alone oozes quality) the length is good, no vibration issues, I have not filled them with anything and the optics are acceptable when on the road. I had originally intended to buy better quality ones if I liked them. However, I see no point now. I know Emgo are rubbish but I'm quite happy with these.
If they were crap I would bin them in a heartbeat and pay whatever I needed to get a decent pair.
When I first got them I clipped a few cars in the traffic and my own cars in the drive quite a few times. I also had a habit of catching them with my shoulder in the garage. I think I'm used to the extra width now but despite all this knocking around they have not broken and remain tight.

+1 I just received the same "zillion 8" mirrors as my were modified recently...... :dash2:  (shortened)

I haven't used them yet but they look pretty good for the price. Yes they are a little lighter than stock and might vibrate a bit BUT, I am not reading licence plate numbers or checking the gal out on the cell phone, all I want to know is there a 3000 lb plus chunk of metal in the lane I want to be in. For that they will probably work fine.

Anything is better than the useless stock mirrors. Not having mirrors would probably be better than the stock mirrors.... At least you wouldn't waist time on something that doesn't work worth a crap. Here in Idaho, not so much of a problem but in heavy freeway traffic at speed it's a problem for sure.

I played with what remained of my stock mirror's and Yamaha has weighted them from the factory, so I am considering drilling a hole in my "Zillion 8" units and slipping in some lead weight in with some silicone and buying 2 black plugs to fill the drill holes. Yet to be determined.

I guess I'm hoping that with some OEM quality mirrors, I actually will be able to read license plates.  :greeting:

And I do respect your opinion Noel, though on ocassion you can be a bit of a contrarian and I don't know what to think (don't mean that at all in a bad way, at times you are the only voice of reason--other times I just don't have enough experience to tell!). But worst case scenario I can clean these up and resell them for a profit. I really would like to try some of your mirrors just 'to know', but my bike came with emgo's, my last bike had one crap mirror and one stock one, so I really believe than an OEM mirror will be built better--enough to justify going for used OEM instead of new aftermarket.

Someday when I have more money to spare and am getting my bike to actually look nice, not just work well, I'll do a comparison for the forum's sake. Until then....

Kyle, your instincts are spot on... you can't go wrong with oem quality.

I don't know about Zillion8 mirrors, but I do know about Emgo...and they are crap. You might as well as use a piece of tin foil to look behind you.  Pat

In Texas, the cars, at least, have license plates on the front. ;)

Noel/George, could either of you two get me a measurement from the base to the far tip of the mirror (basically the longest possible measurement you could make between two points on it)?

And if anyone already has OEM CBR mirrors, could I get that same measurement for those?

Aaand then I'll get the same for the ones I'm getting. Good info to have on the forum for comparison.

Noel/others (mark, you out there?), do you get a full mirror's worth of rearview visibility, or does your arm/shoulder obscure about half of the mirror but at least you get a useful far half? (I thought this is what Mark's ended up being like).

The great irony, by the way... Remember how I bought some OEM CBR mirrors and then canceled the order because I realized I needed the stock base stalks, but the PO replaced mine with emgo's before I got the bike?

Well.... Turns out in the little bag of parts he included with the sale happened to have a pair of stock bases in it. And now I'm getting mirrors that don't require a base change, apparently. Such is life.

I have cheep AM mirrors and can see the last 50% of the mirror past my Ranger elbows.... They are buzzy so the LEOs can still sneak up up on me... With radar the need to pace is long gone....

From the center of the stock Honda mount to the mirror end is about 11 1/2 inches. I plan on not using the Honda mount and will try to rig the mirror onto the FJ base which might extend them it out a bit, maybe another 1/4 -1/2 inch ? Yet to be determined.

The mirrors look pretty close optically to the FJ units. Guess they ran out of shinny chrome plates and were forced into glass mirrors

Plates in Idaho are also front and rear... And every few years we have to buy new ones... "Jobs" program for prisoners..... Forced by law to funnel money to them/state, but hey "no new tax's" right ?  ^&$$$^%### :dash2: :bomb:
