Bike is an 84-1100 at 5000 ft.  Uni pods and a 4/1 Yoshimura pipe. Temps now 80-95 degrees.  Carbs cleaned and rebuilt last year. Just synched carbs.  Engine runs fine everywhere but does not want to idle. Will kill after 5-8 seconds.  I am WAY off on my idle mixture adj. screws, so I will start there.

What is the range [minimum and maximum] turns out for the idle mix adj. screws?
If at the max and still not working right , then that means to go up in number to the next pilot jet?
I know and am trying to use the blip throttle method.

As far as where to start I would turn the screws 2 1/2 turns out. At that point sync the carbs. Set the idle at 1150/1200 RPM then adjust doing a blip test.
But IMO the latitude of adjustment of the fuel/air screws is pretty large. On mine if I run anyone of them down to about 1/2 turn out it will stumble and at 3 1/2 turns by a blip test you can tell it is running rich. At the end of the day I set mine at 2 1/2 - 2 3/4 turns out.

Here is a good read about the carbs and how they function. http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=658.0

Have you looked at the ignition wires and plugs yet ? If all is good there then you might have to pull the carbs and go though them. If its just one carb the a plug reading might give you a clue.

This bike wants fuel, as I found out setting the main and needle jets.  So I assume the same will be true for the idle circuit.  I set the screws to 3 1/2 turns out before my morning ride and it now idles fairly well, but the blip test is a big bog.  That tells me to go out more on the screws, as I had them set a 5 turns out. It did not want to idle well at all at 5 turns out . Now it idles fairly well but for the blip test. I still have some to go to get it to be right but I am closer.
