fuel filter question

Hello,
Where should the fuel filter be in my 89? The fuel pipe runs straight from the the fuel tap to the carbs? Is it inside the tank on an 89?
Just curious because I purchased a fuel filter for an 89 and the one that has been posted is a mid fuel line type

Under the tank there is (or should be) a bracket where the fuel filter goes. The filter goes on the fuel line between the tank petcock and the inlet of the fuel pump.

Po pics are great, did you see the ones randy posted with the gasket goo,,, filter goes where pat said,, po had a filter on my 88 od was the same but id was 1/4 the size it should of been

Yeah I saw it and it made me cringe.
The P.O. will get a good kicking if I ever see him again. I'm 29 have ridden bikes for 11 years and not once tried to blag or pull a fast one on another biker.
This bike has the potential I can feel it but it's going to take time and money.

So far I have found...
No fuel filter
No oil cooler
No oil pressure warning light.
Head bearings looser than a loose thing
Mismatched tyres ( real bad mismatch too sportmax front, continental something back)
Over tight chain
Blelow minimum oil level
Of and covered in chav stickers

Bell end or what!

Hope you guys like streetfighters...
I've put new tyres on and worked through the list above and like I said I can tell she has potential.

 Wow,that's some list of dodgyness  , out of all that id let him off for the fuel filter,  may have clogged the carbs and stopped running  before she fell apart and killed you,  still can't work out why anyone would remove the oil cooler,, doubt he,s a bell end, would of pulled that off too
