Doe's anyone know if there is a rebuild kit for the 86 petcock? PLEASE ! Big R

Thanks Travis I needed that, looks like I'm going to have to go with a pingle, I think it's going to pbe a pain to turn on and off

Don't dick around with a manual valve that is inaccessable.
4 Options:
1) Get the O rings and a new spring and rebuild the petcock yourself. http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=2264.0
2) Buy a new '84/85 vacuum petcock. You will loose that goofy reserve function, but the 84/85's are 1/2 the price of the '86 electric reserve petcocks.
3) Buy a new '86 petcock
4) Buy a Pingel and use this nifty vacuum valve on it:

Thanks,Pat, I think that I will probably go with replacing the petcock with the 85 model. It's a direct bolt on I hope. Thanks Big R :biggrin: :good2:

For some reason the Canadians seem to get parts cheaper than us.

285 for the stock 86 valve and 164 for the non electric 85 valve. I saw that boats had the 85 valve for 117$ but by the time I figured in shipping andsuch it would be about the same as I would pay here. Big R

Thanks guys. Ended up that the petcock was fine. There was a bit of mung in the float bowl and stuck in the needle and seat. Rob cleaned the float bowls and the seat, put a new chain and sprockets and new rear brakes pads, changed the fluid in the rear master, synced the carbs, changed the oil and filter all for $340. I thought that was'nt to bad. What do you guys think? She goes like JACK THE BEAR now. :rofl: :rofl: :biggrin: :biggrin:

Rebuilding the 86 petcock is not real hard - I know your issue is resolved but the main thing ( at least in my case) that was wrong or bad was the o-ring.  Replacing the spring and o-ring is all you really need

Depends on what the problem is; replacing spring and o-ring fixes a leaky petcock. I have done both of those. (Don't forget sticking in a small washer behind the spring, easier than getting a replacement spring.) The other common problem is vacuum failure.

That pingel vacuum valve sure is nifty. Instead of buying a manual on/off pingel to go with it, you could just convert the malfunctioning stock petcock to be 'always on', making that the cheapest solution I think.
