new oil leak has appeared

Hello guys,its me again with a new problem.finally took my new old fj for good hiway romp from Burlington to Toronto on thursday picking up some parts for the machine shop that i manage.
Drove the 407 at about 180 kph were I could and the old girl ran smooth and strong this was great.When I returned to work and got of the bike the right side of the muffler was smoking
and my right boot was covered in oil at the toe,wtf this was extremely depressing.When my workers and I went over the bike we believe the leak is coming from the base gasket mid
point behind the cylinder block.The oil pooled up in a depression behind the right side of the block the came through a hole cast into the upper case half then down the side of the
tranny cover hit the wind and blew over my boot and onto the exhaust.I rode the  bike hard for a reason to see if it would encounter any problems and there you go I have a problem.
short history of my newly purchased 1992 fj1200 abs 3xw
:bought in january 2013 with 75,000 km for $2200.00(not my first fj ,owned new 1986)
-unknown matainace history ,guy told me fork seals had been done
-could not test ride it ,picked it up in company van during a snow storm near Windsor ont.

my maintainace
-changed the oil (motal 5100 10w40 syn.)
- changed plugs ngk.
- cleaned and detailed(old bike cleaned up nice)
note:bike runs absolutely fine every thing works and I am still very happy her even with this new leak

my thoughts on fix :
rode the bike for 250km after oil change with no oil leak but it was colder about 15c and did not ride it hard.
-oil I changed was of unknown origin  and weight but it was time to come out
-have I replaced regular oil with synthetic oil? ,have read where synthetic oil can find leak points and get through easier than normal oil.
-that hard ride made the engine the hottest it has been since I owned it (23 degrees out that day)
-rode later that day with a buddy for 2 hours but took it easy,still leaking but not near as bad.

might I try if it is the base gasket:
-re torque cylinder head bolts?
-check crank case vent tube for blockage
-run 20w50 oil?
-run lucas oil additive stop leak(really don't want to do this)
-clean the leaking area and run a bead of metal epoxy?
-take it easy and mop up the leak when needed?

Start simple.  I had the same thing happen to me on a high speed run across GA on my '85.  In my case, I had overfilled the bike with too much oil.  It vented as you describe while riding.  You mention recently changing the oil, where is the oil level on the site glass now?  If it's high now, and you have vented a good bit, then you likely did overfill it.

  Completely clean the motor...brake & parts cleaner type stuff...and then just use good old fashioned talcum powder. Give it a liberal covering and run her. You will soon see exactly were the leak is...

thanks Dan. I know for sure the oil has been overfilled a little,is there a easy way to take oil out of the engine(oil filter drain plug?)without going though the drain plug.
It would be great if that was the problem but why did it only appear after the engine got really hot and not 250kms earlier after the oil change?

A large syringe and hose, suck it out the fill cap if you just need to take a small amount out. I buy my large syringes for a farm supply store. I think they use them for feeding animals medicines.

In my case, it was not until I had the bike well north of 100MPH, for an extended amount of time, that it happened.  I know I had recently changed the oil -maybe 50 miles were already on the bike since the oil change, with no discernible oil leak.  It was not until I really pushed it that it blew out.

Hi Dan, removed 1/2 a litre of oil from the engine today and it reads right it the sight glass.road the bike for 4 hours today from hamilton Ontario through lewiston n.y up to buffalo n.y
back into Canada and through Niagara falls Ontario.Engine is still leaking but seams to be less than before ,I rode at highway speed up to 160 kph and the engine was plenty hot.I dabbed
away some oil in the depression that it builds up in with a paper towel before it goes through the hole in the upper case and down the clutch  cover and onto my boot, again not near as
much oil as before(funny kept looking down at my boot while riding to see if was getting oiled).Bike ran unbelievably well,starting to believe that the second to last owner of this bike(owned
it for 16 years)maintained it very well.I was thinking the bike was running rich but I got 170 km on 1/2 a tank of fuel today, sound like normal gas milage?I was going to play with the
mixture screws and sinc the carbs but now I,m thinking do not fix what is not broken might be the way to go..

Have you tried the talcum powder method that was suggested earlier?  It'd be nice to know specifically where the oil is leaking/ coming from.

Hi Dan  did the baby powder thing and it,s the base gasket right side behind the engine,tried a few things,re torque the head bolts,heavier oil 20w50, neither worked.My last resort
was a small bead of jb weld along the base gasket where I seen the leak and there ya go no more leak.Ran the bike hot to 180 kms and rear of engine was dry.Will it hold is hard to say but
hopefully for this biking season until I can change base gasket this winter.
