So i was riding my 85 fj1100 and out of nowhere cruising in 4th gear it died..almost like i just turned the key so i pulled to the side of the road and noticed my neutral light wasnt working..so i made sure she was in neutral and it was..then noticed no brake light horn turn signals nothing..almost like it had no battery...so checked connections and were tight and clean (battery is new for the season) pushed her a block and boom light came on and fired right up rode home a block and died again..waited and waited (15 minutes) and everything came to life again..any ideas on what this could be? ive jiggled wires and nothing seems to help it come back to life so im stumped..it has 20k miles and has been garaged its whole life so all connections seem to be in really good shape.

Not positive on an 1100. On the 89' 1200 all of the lights that are effected are on the same 15 amp fuse. That is the first thing I would check.

Could be your main fuse is loose, should be on the right side near the battery in a back holder
unless you ride bikes, I mean really ride bikes, then you just won't get it

84 Fj1100  effie , with mods
( 88 ) Fj 1200  fairly standard , + blue spots
84 Fj1100 absolutely stock standard, now more stock , fitted with Fj12 twin system , no rusted headers for this felicity jayne

Find a copy of the Yamaha service manual - there aree some in pdf you can download for free with some tiem and effort searching .

Take a good look at the wiring diagram  Find the common points and start there  In addition to the fuse block check the ignition switch, kill switch, etc.  Get to everyconnector you can and clean them up as best you can -a good spray of WD-40 at the least.  And be looking for corrosion and loose connections

Good luck!  And keep us posted on what you find please!

I did jump the solenoid to make sure for some reason it wasn't a bad battery and it turned over good..no spark of course but did turn over

Check the kill switch. These can give problems, particularly on the earlier models with worn switch blocks.  Pete.

The kill switch doesn't have anything to do with lights gas gauge or horn does it?

It does stop the neutral light but should not cancel headlight or horn. Ignition switch is another possibility.

This sounds like main key switch to me, dirty or worn connections inside the switch. Second thought is main power lead and always check the ground. Hope this helps.
