Just depends how bad you got the mod decease..

If you decease from the mod disease, you won't have to worry about it any more!

I believe the YZF 600r wheel has a different diameter axle. You would need to fab some sort of collar. You could possibly swap the entire fork assembly from the FZR. I do know that parts of the triple tree are used for other mods, so I would think it could be made to work.
The reason for using '88 and up lowers only, is that the newer the FJ the softer the front suspension. The best lowers to use would be the 88-90 then you can retain the compression adjustability, but if you wanted to you could slide in any of the later forks as a unit. The FJ swap is by far the easiest to do, if you have changed fork seals you can do this, you just need to drill a couple holes to eliminate the anti-dive.
This is the the swap I did and I am pleased with it. I used '91 lowers, a '87 FZR 1000 wheel, '94 FZR 600 Rotors and blue spot calipers from a YZF 600r. The forks work much better (probably the fresh fork oil) the bike doesn't stand up when I use the brakes and the brakes, wow, what a difference. My bike always stopped but you would wonder, with the blue spots it stops now.

If I go with 89+ forks, would that be best, or would a usd front be better and why?
At least this is all being covered for future searches, HA

The 89+ forks would be the easiest to do. This would enable you to bolt on monoblock/blue spot calipers, and an 87-88 FZR 3.5" wide front wheel. Better brakes, better fitting tire, and you retain your original speedo hookup, fender. These are still damper rod forks, and do not have the adjustablity of newer cartridge style forks. You can add cartridge emulators to give you more adjustabilty when you change out the oem springs.(to soft)

Or install F3 cartridges in the '89 forks...         :good:
