So I pulled up at work this morning and smoke stated coming up from under the dash......"Bugger!" I thought and turn the ignition off.
Went to have a look at the damage at lunchtime - turns out the headlight plastic 3 pin connector was melted and the high beam and low beam wires were trying to amalgamate!

Went and bought a ceramic plug from the local Auto store.....surgery on Saturday.......glad it didn't happen next weekend at the rally or over the next couple of weeks riding down to Melbourne and back...

Good thing to catch it today.... Would be all bad to have it happen on the way to, or at the rally.

Glad it did not cause anymore damage. Are you using a stock headlight bulb or a higher wattage unit?

Like you I got rid of the unreliable HID systems I have on FJ2 & FJ3.  Darren (his brother borrowed FJ2 for the Rally) is raving about the white light globes (without relay their still great) but even at 55 watts I`m concerned at heat output long term along with light hours of globe. (we both got spares for the Rally) Did you use solder on those crimp connectors? Either way I think I`ll buy some ceramic 3 pin connectors. (Do I need a part number?)

Try out the NARVA PLUS 100 globes. They are still the 60/55 watt globe. The gas is different. They have a slight blue glow when you look at it but dont confuse that statement with the ARCTIC BLUE. Totally different globe. I tried various in my cars and am really impressed with these. FJ is getting one. They dont put any extra load on the wiring either. Same wattage as standard

Been running theses for awhile I like them

I've just installed the Narva Plus 120 white light globes in my 89 and the Generals FJ2
As previously stated still only 60/55 watts with apparently no heat gain BUT the difference in brightness and beam length is incredable.
What Globe were you running Harvy?

Darran, its was a Repco 100/55 H4 - I've just managed to pull it out, took some effort as the pins had all melted to the socket.

I'm replacing it with a cheap Xenon Blue 60/55 H4 I bought for the car a few months ago but never fitted, and replacing the OEM socket with a ceramic socket.
One consolation - the rubber boot that keeps the water and dust out survived!

I put the new Globe in  NARVA 60/55 PLUS 100. WOW am impressed. Happy I did that.  Still yet to decide on the DRL lights. No rush.
