Have moved on from my brakes to the forks. Was taking off the front mudguard and metal brace when one of the bolts snapped leaving me with little option but to remove the fork and drill it out. I notice in the haynes it says that when replacing the forks back the small notch(there are three) should face forward. At the moment this is not the way mine are. What is the relevance of this wee notch facing forward and do i have anything to worry about?

the notch in the top is for the preload ádjuster so both sides line up  . im not sure how much it màtters to the adjustment if the notches dont face forwrd
unless you ride bikes, I mean really ride bikes, then you just won't get it

Ok, these are the three little notches, large, medium, small, cut out of the top outside edge of the fork.
So you don't reckon it makes much odds if the small notch doesn't face forward?

no,  should be good as long as the preload is set the same each side,, i think the small  notche facing forward is so ppl dont have odd adjustments, , the manual says they should be forward but it wont matter if they are set the same

The three notches (painted red) are all three different widths.  They are merely indicators for fork adjustments and make no difference which way they face.
You can simply loosen the two clamps (two bolts, plus one bolt) and align the marks if it makes you rest easier!
