Help needed with figuring out this gallery system

Anti-Dive Dave

I notice in the gallery, that there is a "Members Gallery"

I tried to make a personal Gallery page.  So I can start loading pics.

I selected "my gallery", and add a personal picture.  It said "error has occured, as I need to select a category first.

So, I selected Misc FJ stuff, and put up a test pic.

I went back to MY gallery, and there is nothing there, yet the pic is posted.

So, I selected My images, and the pic is there.

When I checked on Members gallery by name, my name is not there, so it has not worked for me.

I cannot delete the picture and I want to.  Where is the option for that?  I posted it, and now I wanna delete it.

You mean that once you post a pic, that's it?  Up forever?  But I thought I'd have options available.

I want to have a gallery under MY name "Anti-Dive Dave" and not just throw them in with everyone elses.

So....how do you do it?

It may be a piece of cake to those who are computer dandy, but I struggle with this stuff.

Thanks in advance.

Select the big button "Galleries", then you'll see a little button marked "My Galleries"

There will, of course, not be any, so "add category" and start loading it with pictures.

It took a few rounds for me to get it too.
I don't need to know where I'm going, I only need to know where I've been.

I've given up.  Swore a lot, and nearly threw the computer out the door to do a "soil hardness test" on it.

I took suggestions and created a Flickr account.

I sat for a few hours loading pictures, and re-naming stuff, and sorting into sets and galleries.

All looked pretty swish.

I came to the FJ site....did a test of inserting a pic.

I selected "insert image" and got the 2 [img]...[img] commands, and knew to put the copied flickr photo code in between the [img} command.

Thus: [img] blah blah htttp whatever the photo code is posted [img]

Hit preview, and all I got was a tiny white box with a red X inside.

All flickr pics set to "anyone can view", third party sites etc.

There are only 2 codes on each photo to copy and paste - one is a "use this code to post pics elewhere on other sites, and the other is a BB code)

I tried both.

I give up.  It's not to be.

Besides, who wants to see another few pics of an FJ going from Bin to Grin in 3 months?

I give up.  :sorry: :sorry: :sorry: :sorry: :sorry: :sorry:

Today seems like another good day to finish that bottle of Ardbeg.  :sorry:

Dave, I had a similar issue with posting images here till I eventually got it. I think I can help you. You sound like you have 99% of it, just some small detail(s) to polish up.

Since we both have a Flicker account my examples will be easy for you to follow.

The image below is the path copied and pasted directly from Flicker.
Image should be right here ---->

What no image?

With some editing of the path after pasting it, the image appears.

What did I do different? Click in the upper right "Reply with Quotes". Look at the first attempt.

And then the second one that worked.

And there is a Yamaha in there somewhere....

Give it another shot. I will work with you till you get it...

Ok, ok....I will have another go later.   Sheesh...the peer group pressure!!!  :mocking:

As waffled in a PM...you guys ain't missing anything.  You all seen it before, done it before, and are probably all now wearing the RPM t-shirt.

But it would be good to not let technology get the better of me.

And if it does...well, it's nothing that a large hammer won't sort out.

But, I'll remember to set up the video camera downstairs, so I can film the flight of the hard-drive, and can then send to Microsoft telling them that their products don't bounce very well.

Hang about.  "workman blaming tools" cliche springs to mind.  Awww bgugger.  It REALLY is me, isn't it.  :sorry:

Don't run well, either.

Gallery isn't terrible to use, but it's not intutive and that's unhelpful.

Flickr is mostly crap if it can't properly interface with a typical bbcode (read: pseudocode) interface.

Monkey: The tag you were looking for was code and /code, surrounded by the usual bracketry, as img and url are.

The easiest way to link that works the vast majority of the time is to skip all of the user-friendly and helpful nonsensical crap on any given host's site.  Once you have something in your own gallery, rightclick on it and look for the properties or info on that image.  If it's within some goofy applet, it won't work (unless you get wise and find the button to disable the flash version of whatever website you're using), but otherwise it'll give you a big string of crap that will have a bit of a link in it.  A link will start with http:// and end with the filetype (.jpg, .jpeg, .png, .bmp, something of that nature).  With that, you can frequently tack img codes at each end and post it here without much trouble.

Dave:  Microsoft doesn't make harddrives.  Don't take your frustrations out on poor software.  Save it for hardware when it really does break.  Your hardware will probably run several variants of linux without trouble (though doing so it a long, long story), and remove the microsoft bits entirely.
