Wire wheels?

So I'm curious about something, I saw a picture the other day of a Katana with wire wheels, and fell in love.

So me being me, I've been sitting around the last few days stewing on what my FJ1100 would look like with wire wheels. I don't know how you'd ever find hubs that would fit, I think my 85 FJ1100 has a 20mm rear axle and 15mm front right? Seems like a common size... but the brakes are another thing, width too. Then you could have some fun with rim width and diameter, finishes, spoke finishes. Just thinking in type I guess. I'm broke as a joke and won't be trying this anytime soon, haha

Wire wheel kats are my favorite gsx,, don't remember what size axles my gsx had, but your right they would look good on an Fj,, oh and that model katana originally fitted with those wheels are EXPENSIVE to buy ,, a lot of katanas had the standard alloy wheels swapped at the dealers for spoked wheels,
unless you ride bikes, I mean really ride bikes, then you just won't get it

Ah yes, I remember them well, wire wheels, wire frame.

Put that thought out of your head immediately and apply your cerebal energy to something more constructive, like figuring out which oil is best.

I did my apprenticeship before mags were the norm, I never want to touch a spoke wheel again, particularly on big bikes but they certainly look good on a static display or rally bike, not for riding though.

Wire frame, didn't realise my gsx was that strong  , would explain the 80 models dodgy handling/wallowing

Sold my Katana ( with Wire Wheels ) to get a deposit together for my block of land, Still have a Spare front Hub that could be laced up to a nice 3.5" alloy rim ??? Thing is its a Katana Original and i would not part with it cheaply. You can get a set made up for about a $1000+ for a set with modern Hubs and any size rim you can dream of, plenty of places do them. As for handling power you would be surprised what they can be built to handle but a dyno bloke i know doesnt like them on bikes over 200hp makes him very timid in the room !
